Anyone that takes a mods advice simply because they have that title is a fool. I still do not believe that it is the PRIMARY responsibility of a mod to dispense advice. As the name (moderator) suggests, they are to moderate for flaming, source posting, and the like. Also, a mod would not be acting on his\her own behalf but on the behalf of MP. They should operate as he does.

See, this is the problem with this whole conversation/argument... you boneheads and johnny-come-latelys think a mod is strictly to stop Billy from throwing sand at Tommy...

The purpose of a mod is to be a trusted member of the community, that can mediate arguments, offer advice based on years of both street and book smarts, give an opinion as to the quality of certain companies, etc...

Randy, how long have you been frequenting BB boards? Not trying to start a scrap with you, but if you've never had to PM a mod to check on someones credentials, then maybe this discussion is one you shouldnt be sticking your nose into...

Calling me a bonehead and the like sure seems like you are trying to start something. If you looked at my original post you would have seen that my original question was "What is the function of a mod?". If a mod is what you have stated that is fine. I have no issues. I was asking for someone to define this as how they thought it should apply here. I gave my definition of what I think a mod should be.

For me, I will NEVER rely on a mods advice simply because they are a mod. I have been around long enough to see that mods are bought and influenced by certain companies. I have had to PM others to check up on people, but once again I would not rely simply on the "say so" of a mod.

    Unless i was the mod......
holy precoly, this is serious stuff eh???
If this is what its like applying, imagine being a mod......thankless job...

I feel that the mod position is one in which has a people person in place, to keep the peace and trolls at bay...Other than that this board tends to moderate itself quite a bit...All in all i see a very mature group here that enjoys a good laugh, and having fun....When it is time to be serious, the members moderate pretty well with any outside interests and negative influences...
Any scammers or people pimping products to hard or newbies asking questions that they should not ask on open forums, or LE sniffin around, are noticed quickly and called out...I think that says a lot about the quality of this board IMO...
All in all this is a great board with a lot of potential, mods wont make a huge wave on this board neither for the good nor bad...

Yeah, the bonehead comment was a little gay on my part... sorry bout that.

The whole point of a moderator is that it SHOULD be someone you can trust. Someone you feel safe asking a question to. You should be able to turn to a mod for the simple reason that the Admin wouldnt have put this person in place had he NOT been able to trust him. Thats what the mod status means in my experience.

And, for the record, never once when I was mod was I offered anything special, freebies or anything of the sort.

With the mods changing every three months..it will be hard to keep trusting new people.

It is the SHOULD part that I have a problem with. But what I have seen happen is that people misuse the power given. If you even question what a mod says you are slammed from all sides and even banned in some instances. I understand that newbs to any board should not start talking shite to mod\vet or even general member. This is disrespect.

This is why I feel that if you let mods simply moderate the forums and not elevate them to a superior status this community would be better off. We are here to share info and our experiences. I doubt many of us have MD following our names so most of our experiences will be our own personal journey. So, advice given must always be taken with a grain of salt, as what we are doing is carrying out experiments on ourselves.
