Just started my no Dairy product diet to see how it effects my vascularity.Never done this before as i am a milk lover but because of that and other poor eating habits i have never really got a ripped look.Going to try at age 54 to see how much better i can get.I am currently 6 foot 3 at 265lbs.I need to be down at 250 i believe so we wil see.
Another thing I have never been A huge protien eater, like the recommended 1.5 grams for every pound of body wieght. At best 1 gram per pound of bodywieght which I will try to mantain.Seems like a lot of protien for a guy my size to go to the 1.5 formula. At 5 to 6 meals a day using the 1 gram per pound formula thats 50 grams of protien per meal.Wow lots of Gas there I would think.LOLAny thoughts there right or wrong?
Well, woke up this morning and did my usual wiegh in and was at 260 even.I have not cut out Dairy completely as i have the odd small yogurt and a pinch of milk on my morning oatmeal, but no more cottage cheese, cheese, glasses of milk.Watching my protion size on all my meals but maintaining 30 grams of protien or better at each one.Lets see if I can break into the upper 250's next week or so.Energy and strenghth at the gym still the same.Mind you I still take my liquid amino supplements,MCT oil, creatine and whey and once in awhile NO booster,so that all helps with the work outs.Oh also doing the ephadefra, caffein and aspirin routine every morning with my coffee after eating also.
Well not quite 50 yet... Turn 49 this coming August. I have been working out on and off for about 20 years, finally over the last 6 months joined Andre's Anytime Fitness and got back into a better regiment. At 6'2 and only 210 lbs tough for me to build much mass but working hard as i can.
56 here-competing for the last 3 yrs going to the nationals in Missisauga-this grampa rocks!
^^^ Awesome!!
Thanks just shy of 18" ... can't seem to reach that damn number, but haven't given up hope.
Finally back from a week in the Dominican as i got married on May 8th so haven't worked out since then YIKES! Going to be some stretching pain once i get back at it Saturday.
Wieghed in this morning at 257 which is trending the right way.Starting to drink more water now during the day, which i should of been doing all along and was not. Also bought some Waxy maize for the first time and I am using it postworkout in my protien shakes. We will see how that goes and if my wieghtloss is effected any.
Wieghed in at 254 this morning.Starting to see some effect on overall strength and power on some of my lifts ,which i expected with less body wieght.Minor issue with me as long as I get better shape and vascalarity with the wieght loss.My goal of 250 is close, but I may have to go slightly lower for maximum effect on bodycomposition and build more muscle from there.I know all this talk is worthless without pics so I will see what i can do soon about that.
Was at 252.8 lbs this morning and just starting to notice abs.Thats a good thing.LOL
I am 51 (52 in 9 days) and have been at it for over 20 years. I am a Natural competitor just on the comeback trail now. I did a show in May and now I am getting ready for next year, back up to 215 and plan on remaining low year round.
I am back. Was off the board for a few month.Beentoo busy working and riding my motorbike over the summer, but still training regular.I managed to get down to 249 lbs back in august but now I am at 255 lbs but I think most of my gain has been mostly muscle as I am stronger in all areas and my pants are still loose around the waist,LOL. Anyways keep training smart and injury free guys.I am nursing a rotary cuff tear on my right shoulder from trying to proove I am half my age.LOL
whoa this is inspiring for people like me in their 20s to get off your rear ends
The older you get the more beneficial it is to train regular.
Another 50 plus,, Back in the game 1 1/2 years ago. Not going to look back,, look out next year,, Frank
This tread keeps getting bumped as i age..55 years old in 4 months..just competed at the Fouad show in Windsor..first in Masters and second in light wts. I knew the girl had me when she said she had no children..I have a 30-21 and 18 yr old..tighter abs and legs beat me...NO way did she have my upper body. It's my gem..no matter my age.
Checking in... Turned 53 a couple weeks ago, still giving her! Started a program that is somewhat different than what i usually do, its Gironda's 8x8. Tomorrow will be the second week so it should be more intense, last week was just getting the poundages figured out.
I'm wanting to learn what other 'over 50' year olds are doing to build muscle, stay motivated and diet. I've lifted for over 30 years off and on. No competitions. Lifted for sports- football, pro softbal, etc. Now I want to see what kind of physical shape I can get into. Just went to lifting one major body part per day- chest, back, shoulders, legs, arms. What's the latest supplements to help? Pre-workout, post-workout? Diet recommendations? I'm 6'3", weigh 250 currently. Would like to get to 225 lbs. But not lose so much size in shoulder width and chest.
Motivation comes from within...you need to decide what you want to look like and how you want to live your life...its completely up to you.
Routine:
chest, back, off, shoulders + traps, arms, legs, off, repeat
4 working sets for large muscles, 3 for smaller muscles
Diet: search for Dave Palumbo 200lb man diet follow that for fat loss and muscle maintenance
Cardio:start EOD 20min increase if fat loss stalls
Supps: creatine mono, whey isolate, multi vit, vit D, fish oil, fiber

Just bumping this again. Now 58 had a motorbike accident, so no leg work outs this year,as I broke both lower leg bones , but still pounding the upper body.Must be more of you over 50 now--LOL
I wanna chime in since I'll be 50 in 1 month. I'm 6' 276lbs (give or take a couple), and sit at 10-12% BF. I'm still quite vascular all over. I've been training since I was 20 years old and can honestly say I've never been bigger or stronger than I am now. I have the odd aches and pains popping up, elbows or knees once in a while, but overall am pretty happy with my continued progress. My attitude has always been, if you think your age is gonna make you slow down then it will. I don't think about my age and it hasn't been an issue yet. My biggest pet peeve is when a shitty looking 20 something comes up to me,and says"wow, you look good for your age." WTF. For my age? I look better than you at your age nimrod.
Wow, I posted here 3 years ago and the thread still lives!
So what have I learned in the last 3 years? I'm now 56, have been training for close to 46 years more or less and if there's one piece of advise I can give to help in your pursuit in this sport is hire a trainer, they are invaluable! I hired one this year and found out that I really didn't know that much, as Prae say's, "you don't know what you don't know". I've learned so much in the last year or so and having a blast!!
I think he's 45 and going 46 next month! Which is not too far!
