Hi dawn,
Can bc residents compete in npc regional shows in WA state and oregon? Also, I noticed npc regional shows have a 'novice' class, I'm assuming for first time competitors? Any reason why cbbf /bcabba doesn't have this? Seems like a nice way to get the feet wet

well technically they are not supposed to
but they do if they have a US address
what people don't realize is unless you are a US citizen you can't ever get a pro card in the US just being a resident
i had this argument with another BC resident that moved to the US last yr
i lived in the US for 10 yrs so unless they had changed the rule....
so i emailed the NPC and i was still correct

BCABBA has NOVICE SHOWS
we have the tier system
once you qualify you move to next tier

as far as CBBF it depends on the province
like in Ontario theres different levels you have to move thru to even get to provincials (they have alot more competitors than here in BC)
where here in BC its top 3 in novice show does to provincials

I began to train because of him, I watched his movie Rocky (I) in the early 80's and he got me motivated big time, so I began to train everyday, I didn't really knew what I was doing, but I was training, abs, chin-ups, push-ups, punching bag, curls, etc... I was 13.

Boomer is her dog....

Lessons from Boomer
I’ve made a few observations of my dog and I think we can learn a thing or two from Boomer.
These are dedicated to those who have started or are going to start their contest prep for November
and to those who continue to prep for Nationals.



1. Boomer eats the exact same kibble every single day and he’s still so excited every time we pour food into his bowl.
Remember this as your menu shrinks. At least there’s more than one item on it.

2. No matter what time of the day it is, Boomer is always excited to go get his exercise.
It could be his second or third time out that day, and he’ll still wag his tail with the same enthusiasm.
If you feel like complaining about your second or third session of cardio for the day, embrace it instead.

3. Never skip out on a good stretch. Downward dog, anyone?

4. Drink plenty of water. If you start to dream of soda, milk, juice, wine, or anything of the sort,
remember that Boomer’s only beverage is water and HE LOVES IT! He doesn’t even need coffee to get him going for the day.

5. Get plenty of rest. If everyone’s out for the day, sneak in a nap on the couch.
You should probably sleep on your bed, but who will know?

6. Obey your master. Do what you’re told. Obey long enough and you might get a treat.
Remember, no sneaking treats when no one’s looking.

7. Bad things could happen if Boomer were to get into chocolate. You should stay away from it too.

Get excited and have fun! Wake up each morning eager for the day to begin. You know Boomer will be.
Give it 100% because it’s a dog-eat-dog world out there. If you don’t, someone beside you on stage did.

so i'm always asked how my tilapia is made
and whatz crazy is i eat it 6 x's a day right now
and i'm a person who's always hated fish
but Brandon makes it in a way that i love it more than chicken
here's the recipe

TILAPIA made by: Brandon Best
I pour on freshly squeezed lemon juice,
sprinkle pepper on it,
and put the fillets in a pan on medium high heat.
Let it sit long enough so that the pan side browns/blackens
(depending on how done you like it).
The indicator I use is that when you see the edges start to curl up slightly, it is ready to flip.
You should be able to get a clean flip without it falling apart.
Once you flip them,
the excess lemon juice and pepper mixture that was initially poured on it,
pour that onto them.
This side will not take as long as the other side.
And when you remove,
pour more of the fresh squeezed juice on it,
and let it sit for two to three minutes.

NOTE: we prefer the Tilapia from Sav-on Foods or PriceSmart
it's thinner but seems to taste better and less fishy

Note 2: it MUST HAVE THE REAL LEMON
once he ran out and it just wasn't the same
just sayin
but then again remember i don't like fish

Other than Lee Haney I think Sergio was the greatest bodybuilder of all time, and if he was competing in this day and age with all the advantages in supplements etc he would be the current Olympia champ.

one of my Figure girls who won BC's recently and has only been involved in the sport a little over a year texted me asking me last wk....
which bodybuilderI idolized / thought was the greatest
i asked: man? woman? or either?
i said: no question Sergio was my number one bar none
then Flex... back in his prime to me was awesome
and Ronnie.... love esp his strength me coming from my powerlifting background

I agree about Sergio, gotta respect the guy with bigger arms then his head. Also one of my favorite is Franco, great bodybuilder but also a multi discipline athlete, pound for pound he's quite impressive, got my respect too. <

i used to have the original "Pump Iron" on video
i lent it to someone and never got it back
now the ones they have on dvd are more a commentary of it as opposed to the actual original movie as it was
one day i will search for it on the internet try to get it back

10 Ways to Live a More Meaningful Life

1. Know What’s Important
Know what’s important for you.'
Write down your top 5 things that you believe are the essence of how you want to live life.
This can include things like “family time,” or “sing
every day.” It could also include more complex ideas, like “honesty” and “simplicity.”

2. Pursue Your Passion
I believe everyone should pursue their passion in life.
It’s what makes life worth living, and gives our lives true meaning and purpose.
Each time you work on something you love, it creates joy inside you like nothing else.
Finding a way to use your passions to give back to the world will give your life ultimate meaning.
If you can’t manage (or aren’t ready) to work on your passion for a living,
be sure and make time for it every day.
By working on your passion and becoming an expert in it,
you will eventually have the opportunity to make money from it.
Be ready to seize that opportunity!

3. Discover Your Life’s Purpose
If you had to give yourself a reason to live, what would it be? What would you stand for?
What principles do you hold highest? Is your life’s purpose to help others?
Is it to inspire others with great works of art, or you words?
Finding your life’s purpose is a daunting task,
and when I first heard the idea, I had no idea where to start.
For methods on discovering your life’s purpose,
I recommend Steve Pavlina’s blog entries on the subject.

4. Be Self-Aware
Be aware of yourself and your actions.
Remain mindful of what you do at all times,
and make sure you are living life according to your principles, your life’s purpose,
and what you are passionate about.
Review your actions each day, taking stock of those that strayed from your path.
Work towards correcting any incidents in the future.
Meditation is a great tool for accomplishing this task.
It helps us increase our self-awareness throughout the day.

5. Focus
Rather than chasing 3 or 4 goals and making very little progress on them,
place all of your energy on one thing. Focus.
Not only will you alleviate some of the stress associated with trying to juggle so many tasks,
you will be much more successful.
Try and align your goal with something you are passionate about,
so that there will be an intrinsic drive to work hard and do well.

6. People More Than Things
Often, we are faced with wanting to buy material goods.
I recommend you consider carefully what you purchase,
and think more about spending your money on experiences with friends and family.
Not only will this give deeper meaning to your life
by focusing on your relationships rather than material wealth,
but you will be a happier person as a result.

7. Live With Compassion
Both for yourself, and others.
For some, compassion is the purpose of life,
what gives it meaning, and what leads to ultimate happiness.

8. Find a Way to Give Back
Do something that both honors your beliefs and passions,
while giving something back to the world.
By giving something back, we inevitably find purpose in the act.
By cultivating more of these activities,
you will find your life has more meaning and purpose behind it.

9. Simplify Your Life
By simplifying your life, y
ou’ll have more time to do what fulfills you and gives your life meaning.
It can also help reduce stress and make your overall life easier to manage.
It can also greatly improve your productivity.
If you’ve never tried to simplify things before,
it really is a great feeling.

10. Set Daily Goals
In the morning, before you start your day,
create a list of 3 goals that you find fulfilling and meaningful.
Make sure they adhere to your set of principles and beliefs.
Tackle the hardest things first! Don’t make this list too long.
By placing too many things on the list, you’ll feel the urge to multi-task,
which is not good, or you’ll feel overwhelmed, which isn’t good either.
By trying to do less, you’ll end up doing more.
Doing all of these things at once may seem daunting,
but you can pick one thing at a time and slowly incorporate the ideas into your life.
Life is about the journey, not the destination.
Living a life of purpose gives both fulfillment and meaning to your journey

Now 47, this is Ms. Alison’s 20th year in competitive bodybuilding. She lives in Surrey, B.C., and will be competing in the grand masters category.

Day job: Personal trainer.

On rivalries: There are a lot, but I’m friends with quite a few competitors. There are a lot of girls that I competed with at nationals who now have their pro cards and I’m still here in the amateurs, but they’re in my corner, messaging me to ask how my prep is going. There’s cattiness, but I think that’s in any sport. People try to psych you out.

Post-competition indulgence: Fruit. I always miss fruit.

i'm still amazed at the lack of "STICK-TO-IT-NESS" by so many who get into this game
those who expect to go show 1, 2, 3 and be an IFBB Pro
well i guess it does happen sometimes, but it does not happen often
for many its many many years of hard work and perseverence
goin back again and again
taking someonthing away from each one, learning, getting better
AT LEAST HOPEFULLY
but at the same time HOLDING ONTO THE DREAM, keepin their eyes on the horizon

I just love so many Michael Jordan quotes on this topic:
I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career.
I've lost almost 300 games.
26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.
I've failed over and over and over again in my life.
And that is why I succeed

If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks.

As long as we can find a suitable dog sitter Dolly will be shooting for the 2013 nationals, otherwise she'll continue to work on her weak area's.....what are ya gonna do the animals come first in our world and with 3 large dogs and 6 cats we have our hands full.....And you what's your plan?

i totally understand about the animals thing

me i didn't miss a beat full on for next yrs nationals
training currently with Brian and Donna Logue online
as well as i'm going back to doing what i did in 2010 when my legs were the biggest they ever were
and that is taking every tuesday off work
driving to Poco to train with IFBB Pro Carlos Rabiei
it's a killer gruelling 2 1/2 hr + leg workout lots of volume
and i always train harder when i'm around him lol
after which you are completely done and unable to do anything but lay down
last tues i tried to do a few things after and both my quads seized trying to walk lol

GOTTA BRING THE LEGS BACK UP

and go back AGAIN next yr.....

had the 2nd GREAT LEG WORKOUT WITH CARLOS YESTERDAY
he's thinking of doing the Toronto Pro show in 212 class if his body will allow
he's pretty messed up from a car accident a few yrs ago
really hinders his training

it's Brandon and my 2 yr wedding anniversary today
for those who don't know we met on my old coaches website rxmuscle.com
Brandon aka GX (as he was known on the forums) was a moderator on the forum
Dave Palumbo: my coach/ website owner started me a thread on there
GX and I become good friends and over the course of 2 yrs got closer and closer
at the beginning of 2010 we both said we were going to go to the Olympia that year
neither of us had ever been
i was goin with my client/ good friend Vicky Lee
early in the yr Vicky and i got a great seat sale on airfare
i told GX we had booked our tix
and he said i booked my hotel room
i'm like "does it have a kitchenette?"
he's like "yah it does"
so i booked there
as the yr 2010 went on i did 2 national shows that year
and GX was such a great help to me
and i'd never met anyone with such a calming effect on me
i started thinking i really dig this guy
he asked me one day "would i like to go to this after party with him at the Olympia"
i said "sure but you better watch out i don't get you drunk and marry you"
and he said "you don't have to get me drunk to marry me"
and thatz how it all begun
then one day we just said HELL LETS JUST GET MARRIED ON SUNDAY AFTER THE OLYMPIA
and we did lol
and my coach / rxmuscle owner: DAVE PALUMBO videotaped it and put it on his site

every day we love each other more
and because of all we have been thru we appreciate each other all the more

and she photoshopped it as Fantasy Art...

Last night my daughter hugged me and said,"your waist is so tiny. Is all your chemo fat gone now?"
Five years ago at this time she was getting her first of 18 rounds. My eating habits went from bad to out of control.

Every morning I get up at 430 to do 50 mins of cardio.....and I bitch about it. Thanks Emma for making me realize 50 mins of cardio is a breeze compared to what you went thru.
As for my "chemo fat".....it's gone.
Thanks for the kick in the ass back to reality Emma Sheepwash aged 10 ......I love you.

entries close and will not be accepted after 1 wk out which is Nov 3rd

PLEASE NOTE the following information:

You must be a current member to enter a BCABBA event, but both membership application and entry form may be sent in together.

Memberships run from January to December each year.

As of the 2011 AGM, members voted to increase the late fee to $200. If an athlete enters after the 4 week out deadline, the late fee charge will be required in addition to the regular entry fee. This is to AVOID LATE ENTRIES into the the event for the sake of the BCABBA administration and the Promoter's preparation for the event.

At the 2011 AGM members also voted to create a one week out final deadline. All entries must be received no later than one week out from the event. After one week out, no athletes will be allowed to enter the competitions. This is to avoid last minute entries which slow down the athlete's meeting and affect all the athletes waiting to compete.

BREAK UP THE BOREDOM...



CREAM CHICKEN, YAM, CARROT SOUP

in slow cooker add

- Chicken breasts

- Chop yams, carrots, onions

- Add herbs: rosemary, thyme

Fill with water

Cook overnight

In morning put into food processor and blend till smooth

If not food process can shred up chicken to make stew

Make sure you know how much meat is going in dish (ie: 1 lb meat = 16 oz)

If your serving size is 4 oz of meat per meal

If 1 lb meat in dish go 16 oz divided by your 4 oz serving size

Equal 4 servings in dish, so get 4 bowls and divide dish into them

In the spring of 2012, my youngest daughter was 7 months old. I had found myself in a major “mommy-rut.” All my time and attention was focused on my family and I was feeling overwhelmed by raising two young girls away from any family or support system (we had just moved to Langley from Edmonton a year prior). I wanted and needed a goal that would help me feel a bit more like me again. I had this crazy idea that I wanted to compete. In fact, I had wanted to compete for years but always found an excuse. I had no idea how to get myself there.

I did some research and found Dawn Alison online. I watched (i.e. became slightly obsessed with) her Team Fitbody videos and knew she was the right trainer for me. I started working with her in May of 2012. She immediately put me on a program suited to my goals (not a one-size-fits-all approach), and I quickly began seeing results. We began a 16 week competition prep in July. Those 16 weeks were a complete whirlwind. It was amazing watching Dawn manipulate my diet to get the results she was after. I felt like my own little science experiment. She also helped to arrange and manage every little detail from suit fittings to competition hair and makeup to carb-restricted client meltdowns!

I could not have gotten on the Sandra Wickham Fall Classic stage without her. My competition day experience was the best. I had so much fun and it was great to hear Dawn hooting and hollering from the audience.

As for my goal of feeling a bit more like me again? This was MUCH better and MUCH more than that.

Prior to this, I feel like I had fallen into living a life of submission and just letting things happen around me. I never used to be that way. Through this process, I regained discipline and control in my life. I am viewing the world with fewer limits and more possibilities. Best of all, I have re-established confidence in my ability to take on any challenge life throws at me and see it through to the end. This journey has been about so much more than a physical transformation. The physical transformation was great, but it is almost a secondary benefit to the mental transformation.

Dawn is an extraordinary coach. She is incredibly responsive and has the unique ability to tune into what her clients need. She can motivate you, calm you, or kick your butt depending on what you need! The care and attention she gives to each client truly is incredible. Put your trust in her and she will get you where you want to go. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

INSANITY: doing the same things over and over again expectly different results

POST CONTEST BINGEING
after show its easy to get caught up on the sugar high
and you go into denial about how many calories you are consuming
and within a few wks
you can look worse than you did before you started your journey many months prior to your show
it's a vicious ferris wheel you can get yourself trapped on and can't get off
it can last weeks, even months, even years
don't let yourself fall in this PIT
get back to eating a healthy balanced meal plan
stay hooked in with your coach and support network
be aware of where your weight is so things don't get out of hand
reach out for help if you need it

well today i have SURVIVED 48 yrs of being on this planet
which is a miracle i'm here
but must admit this is the best time of my life
and my life keeps getting better and better
alot of you know i cleaned up from drug addiction Oct of 1996
and have been clean ever since
Crack cocaine was my drug of choice in the end
but ALCOHOL a main staple, along with pot, speed, designer drugs etc
but for the Grace of God there go I
i'm extremely grateful to the program of NA for helping me to get clean
and i use the tools of the program to keep me clean today

born in Tynemouth, Northumberland, England Nov 25, 1964
came to Canada when i was 2 yrs old with my parents
spent 10 yrs in the US from 1883-1993
back in Beautiful BC ever since....

i'm grateful for so many things...
my health,
my happiness,
my family, wonderful son Storm and husband Brandon,
i don't know what i would do without my parents...
i'm grateful for all the wonderful clients and friends i have
i'm grateful to live in such a great country
i'm grateful that my little 1990 VW Golf continues to run
and my awesome mechanic who keeps her running lol
grateful for my cats: Honey and Lucky

One year ago today, I started training with Dawn Alison.
Now, I must say that training with her was definitely not what I expected.
I thought I had hired a personal trainer
to help me prepare for a bodybuilding show and that’s it.
I didn’t think that I had found a coach and friend that was there to educate me,
encourage me, and at times, act as my therapist.
I guess that not having your expectations met can act in your favour.
Over the past year, I’ve had the courage to walk/prance/dance around in a teeny tiny bikini
at two bodybuilding shows,
discovered that I have amazing willpower and determination (never knew I had that!),
and learned how to be comfortable in my own skin.
None of this has anything to do with lifting weights.
Dawn isn’t the type of coach that ever told me I could do it.
She always told me I could do more and do better.
Because of her, I never have the feeling that there’s something I can’t do.
I can do it. Of course I can!
And, if for some reason I think that I can’t,
I’m sure Dawn has a million reasons that I can.
Heck, look at everything she does all while working the hardest job in the world, raising a son!
So, if you’re looking for a personal trainer, they’re a dime a dozen.
Go find someone to tell you what weights to lift and what food to eat.
But, if you’re looking for someone to be by your side,
kick you in the butt if you need it, give you a hug if you need it,
teach you to manage your money,
send you an encouraging text message
that makes you tear up while you’re doing cardio early in the morning preparing for a show,
or remind you what’s important in life,
look for Dawn.
Don’t worry; she’s easy to find in a crowd.
Just open your eyes and open your ears.
