Since your just starting out and have a medical condition why dont you try to work on just using your bodyweight first.

For example do push ups in the morning. 50 wide hands, 50 narrow. Maybe some ab crunches or some ab work like leg lifts. Also you could do calf raises on a set of stairs doing each calf alternating every step. What else.. hmm you just got to be creative i used to workout in my basement before i hit the gym and i just did a lot of variations of push ups, pull ups, dips on the washer and dryer. lol.
