Same reason former football players end up doing commentary and/or managing the team... because they know the inner workings better than anyone and have been around through the good and the bad... not only is it smart business, it's a matter of showing respect for those that came before you...
My original question was not answered. "What is the function of a mod?" That should guide who should be mod. If a mod is supposed to simply settle flame wars a respected member would be a better choice than someone with BB experience. If BB experience is why mods are selected at other boards maybe that is why there is more flaming than real information. Seems to me this board has better info and less flaming than boards with mods.
