I don`t mind using a pan for chicken, but a steak in a pan is just a waste of a good steak.

If you know how to cook a steak properly in a pan its not that bad.
Step 1: preheat oven to 350.
Step 2: Get the pan really hot (i.e if you hold your hand 2 inches from the pan you should not be able to hold it there for like 2-3 seconds.)
Step 3: add 1 tbsp of olive oil and wait for it to heat up.
Step 4: place steak in pan and don't touch it for like 20 seconds when you flip it it should be brown on the bottom.
Step 5: flip steak and immediately place in the oven for about 20 minutes depending on how thick the steak is and how done you want it obviously.

I was thinking of cooking it on the stove, not in the stove. Never even knew it was possible. I may try that this winter, thanks daande!

Hell ya! I learned how to do this watching a cooking show.. sear the beef on both sides and stick it in the over to finish it off. Works quite well when BBQ'ing isn't an option.

or u can just broil in the oven for liek 5 min a side. I don't have a bbq so sometimes have to resort to it.
