(Not sure where to post this as CBB has no SM forum)

February 14th 2009
Clash of the Titans
Health and Wellness Expo
Philadelphia, PA

***Note: Videos appear head to head but in reality its HW and LW competing concurently with different weights

Axle / Log Press Medley
240lb Axle, 250lb Log, 270lb Axle, 280lb Log

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z1xVq-hAKs

I have been focusing my training on improving my overhead pressing strength this past off-season and have made some improvements. Going into this event I didn’t know what to expect knowing that pressing is my worst event, I did hit the first to implements with ease and cleaned the 3rd but fell short of pressing it out. Honestly I have never attempted a 270 axle in training so I was not expecting miracles. Conditioning was a huge factor here, once I cleaned the axle the second time I felt my legs were done.

Farmers Walk / Tire Flip Medley
290lb Farmers 50ft and 850lb tire for 5 flips

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVfOn6Tt2EA

The tire for this event was the same tire from the North East Beast last June and I already had the “pleasure” of flipping it at a previous competition. This was a “low cal” version of the Death Medley at the Beast with lighter farmers and missing a 450lb chain drag, so I knew I had it in me to finish the event. Again conditioning was a factor and I felt I could have done a bit better with the time, but have done zero conditioning work in the last 4-5 months.

Yoke Walk / Chain Drag Medley
750lb Yoke 50ft / 450lb Chain Drag 50ft

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJQQm5k249A

I was confident with both implement weights but not in a medley format. I finished the event but my time sucked. Conditioning could have been better and as well as speed, over happy with event performance as I have made progress in both events this year.

Keg Load Medley
230 lb 40ft / 250lb 30ft / 260lb 20ft / 280lb 10ft

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEd-YMeGVM8

Had good speed in this event but the last keg was the smallest and surprisingly hard to load with my technique.

***** Stone Load for Reps
310lb stone 90sec

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVioA0Yw6nM

Was hoping to beat my number at the Canadian 105kg Nationals where I hit a 303lb stone for 7 reps. Unfortunately I made a few stupid mistakes. My 3rd load didn’t count since it didn’t go over the bar as well as I let my self slip on my last attempt and didn’t get the stone over the bar, it was so damn close but I failed mentally and dropped the stone. I got a total of 7 reps in but felt I had 9 in me.

I placed 4th in the 265lb class. Overall I felt I was consistent but mediocre and I need to get allot more conditioned if I’m to do well in Orlando, FL on April 18th 2009 at the Show of Champions. I am very happy that I did not re-injure my right Bicep which I tore in mid September 2008. Awsome show very smoothly run by a bunch of great people! 50 competitors.
