KENDALL GROVE VS. JASON DAY AT UFC 96
Ultimate Fighter season three winner Kendall Grove will face Canadian fighter Jason Day at UFC 96 on March 7 in Columbus, Ohio. Grove's attorney, Jill Baxter, confirmed the bout on Friday to 411mania.com.
Following a two-fight skid, Grove most recently fought on June 21 at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale. He defeated the late Evan Tanner by split decision.
Day has been out of action for nearly as long. His most recent fight was a June 7 TKO loss to British fighter Michael Bisping at UFC 85.
Both fighters will be looking to kick off 2009 with a successful effort as the UFC returns to Columbus for the third consecutive year on the same weekend as the Arnold Sports Festival.
The event has been formally announced by the UFC, but no bouts have officially been revealed. There are strong rumors that a bout between Gabriel Gonzaga and Shane Carwin could materialize at UFC 96, but sources indicate it has yet to be signed. Other rumors mark Chuck Liddell and Keith Jardine for the Nationwide Arena, although they are not likely to rematch, instead fighting in separate bouts.

GRAY MAYNARD VS JIM MILLER AT UFC 96 IN COLUMBUS
A pivotal lightweight match-up has been added to the UFC 96 card in Columbus, Ohio, as Gray Maynard and Jim Miller will clash in a fight that could determine a top contender in the ever-growing 155-pound weight class. The fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Monday.
Making his promotional debut at UFC 89 in England, former International Fight League lightweight Jim Miller let his presence be known when he submitted David Baron in the third round of a hard fought contest.
His next fight came on just over a week's notice as Miller stepped in to face Matt Wiman at the UFC Fight for the Troops show in December. Despite virtually no training camp and just coming back from his honeymoon, Miller defeated Wiman with a unanimous decision win.
Gray Maynard steps into the fight against Miller riding a four-fight win streak and still undefeated in his career (the only blemish being a no contest against Rob Emerson in June 2007).
The "Bully" has improved his overall game while training with the team at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. After handing Frankie Edgar the first loss of his career, Maynard came back at UFC 90 in October and picked up a unanimous decision win over Rich Clementi.
The fight between Miller and Maynard will likely end up on the main card, but the UFC has made no official announcement about the bout or the headliner for the show which remains a matter of speculation at this point.

AARON RILEY VS SHANE NELSON AT UFC 96
As the UFC gets ready to return to the Buckeye state on March 7 another fight has been confirmed. Season 8 "Ultimate Fighter" cast member Shane Nelson returns to action to face veteran fighter Aaron Riley in a lightweight match-up. The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday by several sources close to the fight.
Training in Hawaii with UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn, "Sugar" Shane Nelson was a favorite in the early going to make it far during the eighth season of the reality show, but he suffered a loss against eventual show winner Efrain Escudero in a quarterfinal match-up.
Never to be deterred from his UFC dream, Nelson returned at the show's finale in December and knocked off former housemate George Roop by decision.
Now the young Hawaiian gets to step right into deep water against a crafty veteran in Aaron Riley, who has been in close to 40 professional bouts during his career.
In his return fight to the UFC, Riley picked up fight of the night honors along with a unanimous decision win over Jorge Gurgel in November.
It's unknown at this time if the fight between Nelson and Riley will make the main card, but it's likely to end up on the preliminary portion of the show.
UFC 96 takes place on March 7 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. It will be the third consecutive year the promotion has put on an event in the area.

HAZELETT VS SAUNDERS SET FOR UFC 96
Two of the most exciting fighters in the UFC welterweight division are set to square off in Columbus, Ohio, as American Top Team fighter Ben Saunders and submission specialist Dustin Hazelett have agreed to meet at the event on March 7. The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Monday.
As a cast member for the sixth season of "The Ultimate Fighter," Ben Saunders proved he had the talent to hang with the best fighters during the show, but his true skill has been shown in his last few fights.
His last bout out, Saunders turned into a Muay Thai machine, pummeling opponent Brandon Wolff about the head and ears with knee strikes before the referee finally stopped the punishment at just under the two-minute mark of the first round.
Saunders has been considered a top prospect coming out of the American Top Team for some time now, but his opponent has also become recognized for his highlight style finishes.
Dustin Hazelett, who currently holds an impressive 5-2 record in the UFC, comes into this bout fresh off of an armbar victory over Tamdan McCrory in November 2008.
Training with Team Jorge Gurgel in Cincinnati, Ohio, the home state kid will get his second crack at fighting in front of the Buckeye faithful as he brings his unbelievable submission game to town. Hazelett has won numerous "Submission of the Night" awards from the UFC and has said that he hopes to hold the record for that accomplishment by the time his days of fighting are over.
The bout between Saunders and Hazelett comes on the heels of the news that Jim Miller would take on Gray Maynard in a lightweight showdown.
No main event has been named for the event, but former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell is rumored to return for his next bout as a part of the card.

MATT HAMILL VS. MARK MUNOZ ALL SET FOR UFC 96
Light heavyweight wrestling standouts Matt Hamill and Mark Munoz will face off at the upcoming UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio. Sources close to both fighters confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that bout agreements have been signed and the fight is a lock.
Hamill, 32, on Saturday evening signed the Munoz bout as part of a new six-fight deal with the promotion. He last appeared at UFC 92, defeating IFL veteran Reese Andy by TKO. In the last fifteen months, the three-time NCAA champion has shown an increasingly impressive skill set on his feet while maintaining his strong wrestling base. 5-2 in professional competition, he first entered the spotlight on the third season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” the first deaf fighter to appear in the organization.
Munoz, 30, emigrated to the UFC following the WEC’s elimination of the light heavyweight and middleweight divisions. The 2001 NCAA champion last defeated Ricardo Barros at the WEC 37, the last to feature light heavyweights. Undefeated in five professional bouts, Munoz began his training at former WEC featherweight champ Uriah Faber’s Ultimate Fitness Academy, but has recently been working with the Gracie Academy and Joker’s Wild Academy in southern California.

PETE SELL VS MATT BROWN AT UFC 96
In what could be a sleeper nominee for Fight of the Night, MMAWeekly.com has confirmed with sources close to Pete “Drago” Sell that he will be making his Ultimate Fighting Championship return on March 7 against Matt Brown at UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio.
The fight will be Sell’s second since moving down to welterweight from his previous longtime home of middleweight.
In his initial outing at 170 pounds, Sell defeated former “Ultimate Fighter 7” cast member Josh Burkman via unanimous decision at UFC 90 this past October in Chicago.
Like Sell, Brown is also coming off a win in his most recent UFC action. In November he stepped in on short notice to impressively defeat Ryan Thomas via armbar just under a minute into the second round of their fight.
UFC 96 is set to take place at Nationwide Arena in Columbus on March 7, the same weekend as the Arnold Sports Festival.

JACKSON TO FACE JARDINE AT UFC 96
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson will face off with Keith Jardine at UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio, according to an announcement during the live telecast of UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland.
Jardine, 33, is coming off a win over Brandon Vera at UFC 89 and carries a UFC record of 6-3. According to sources close to the Greg Jackson fighter, Jardine had been expected to face Brazilian Luis Cane on the Mar. 7 card, but the bout was apparently scratched in the days leading up to UFC 93.
Jackson, 30, recently knocked out former Pride middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva in devastating fashion at UFC 92. The bout is a relatively quick turnaround for the charismatic light heavyweight, and likely a final test before another shot at the title.

HAZELETT OUT; RYAN MADIGAN TO FIGHT SAUNDERS
A change has been made to the upcoming UFC 96 card slated for Columbus, OH as MMAWeekly.com has confirmed that Dustin Hazelett has been forced out of his bout against Ben Saunders due to an injury sustained in training. Ryan "The Lion" Madigan has been tapped as a replacement for Hazelett, and according to sources close to the fighter he has signed the bout agreement to face Saunders in his UFC debut.
Fighting out of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Madigan steps into the UFC with an impressive 5-0 record in MMA competition, as well as an extensive background as a professional kickboxer.
Madigan works out of the Jungle MMA training center based out of Ohio, and during his kickboxing career held a record of 8-2 as a professional, and 18-2 as an amateur.
Although the Ohio native has a solid kickboxing background, Madigan has also worked on his ground game, and has submitted his last two opponents, including a win over Brandon Pierce, who trains with Team Jorge Gurgel.
Saunders made quite an impression in his last fight after battering UFC newcomer, Brandon Wolff, with a series of Muay Thai knee strikes that left his opponent beaten up and finished in the first round.
At this time it is unknown if the bout will be featured on the main card or undercard for the show which will feature a main event of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson against Keith Jardine.

TIM BOETSCH VS JASON BRILZ AT UFC 96 IN OHIO
A light heavyweight match-up has been confirmed for UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio, as Tim Boetsch will return to action against Jason Brilz. The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Saturday by sources close to the fight.
Tim Boetsch steps into the bout at UFC 96 with a cumulative 2-1 record in the Octagon, with his last fight taking place in September, which was a win over Michael Patt. He ended the fight in the first round by strikes, earning a TKO victory.
While never far away from his roots training at home in Pennsylvania, Boetsch has also recently started training part time at Team Sityodtong in Boston, alongside fighters like Marcus Davis and Kenny Florian.
Jason Brilz returns to the UFC for the first time since a debut win for the fighter at the UFC Fight Night 15 event held in his home state of Nebraska in September.
In the fight, Brilz was able to do away with opponent Brad Morris with strikes in the second round of their 205-pound match-up.
It's not known at this time if the fight between Boetsch and Brilz will be featured on the undercard or televised portion of UFC 96, originating from the Nationwide Arena.

Jardine's leg kicks won't work on Rampage. Rampage by KO.
The legs kicks worked with Forrest. Rampage didn't even try to check them, and thats one of the reasons he lost.
I trust Rampage's new training digs will put him to work of defending against the leg kicks, since thats one of Jardine's main weapons.
I still go with Rampage (if he avoids the leg kicks)
