I drive an Escape. My new GPS is larger and has voice with street names. I used it today for the first time. I applied it to the wind shield just below my mirror with the suction cup and I couldn't read the street names. I wear bi-focals and can't see small print higher up. If it were lower I'd be able to read it.
So I layed it in front of me on my dash. Seemed ok, but is mid dash board better?
Honestly, having it was more of a distraction then my cell phone is. I was watching every street name while driving to clients homes today instead of using it once I was lost..
It was soo funny. I had to go pee and pulled off the road..it kept saying, "recalculating". Ya, it tells me how fast I'm driving, how soon I'll arrive but it don't calculate home much coffee my bladder is holding.
It tells me where to fuel up at but not where to pee at in the nearest location.
I can't live without mine. I got mine in the middle (over the radio) so its not directly in my field of vision, yet it is still very visible

My wife has a Highlander and it come's already mounted in the center of the dash, just below the top of the dashboard. Seems to be fine there.
Since I already have my Sirius receiver in the center, right above the dash, I put my GPS on the ceiling, where the little sunglasses holder is(or whatever that opening is)... had to play Houdini with the charger wire, but the GPS is well within reach, easy to see and is out of the way...

Need GPS coordinates to your place.. Xo
Need GPS coordinates to your place.. XoHead down the old dirt road, then, turn left where the old red barn used to be... 2 miles before the road dead ends, make a right and its just up the road a piece...

i hate it when ppl can see what i have in my car, thus tinted windows and my sirius is mounted on my console just under my ash tray since i will never use it. If i was in a different country or very new to a city i mount my GPS on my dash too.. but for long i think i want it possibly like a tachometer, mounted near my instrument but not in my direct line of site.
but to each their own

My Garmin won't stay on the car if I'm not in it. I"m not leaving $300 out in plain view for some punk kid to take. I lost a cell phone power cord and all my change this summer. The back window was left down by one of the kids.
I tried the left side of me today, thought I'd like it there but the darn cords a pain. So center mount on the dash it is. Anyone else were bifocals and have problems seeing it in different places? Oh..your all so young, what would you know about bifocals?
I sometimes drive to clients houses in the middle of the night, that's when I'm going to love it. And my 18 yr old has never paid attention to streets in the city till now she has to drive to them. So I'll give it to her if she is venturing to places besides the U.
Mine also has a port for my memory card. So I can share photographs using the larger screen.

I love my GPS , I use it for work all the time driving rigs in city's I am not familure with . And its portable so I can log in where I park when I go out on the town so I can always get back to the car / truck .Worked great in MetroTown Mall .
Best part is it calculates how fast your driving and if you have your destination set , it tells you pretty close to the minute for the arrival time , so when dispatch calls , I have a better time frame to give them .
Well worth the investment .
Now mine also has traffic , weather and xfm if you order it , is xfm better than seriouse ? or about the same ?
Mounting anything on your windshield is illegal and you can get pulled over and given a ticket for it if the cop is a serious dick. Mount your serius or GPS on your dash only to avoid the hassle from a bored cop.

How does it know though if the weather is crappy and that ads an hour to your drive? By how fast your traveling? You slow down it re calculates?
Oh...I need one to tell me how far I can drive on one large Timms before I need to find a clean bathroom. LOL

mine is a Garman and its somthing you can subscribe to for weather and tunes . ( the weather , traffic reports and music are from satalite radio )
But if you program your destination and watch the moniter , it will tell you how long it will take with the speed your doing to your rogramed destination.
They are definitly fun toys to have and I am glad I have it in my rig . I rely on it all the time .
Ya I have the Timmies on different routs programed so that can be done on yours also . Dont know about the clean bathrooms lol
