View Full Version : Chest "Popping" / Soft tissue on my zyphoid process
I have had this issue ever since I have been training but it seems to be getting progressively worse as I add more weight to my bench and put on more size in my chest. It used to only happen on days that I actually trained my chest but now I can pretty much do it at will whenever I arch my back. If you dont know what I'm talking about its a distinct "popping" or almost a tearing type of noise coming from the middle of your chest as you arch your back and stretch out the middle. I started training at 165 lbs and have made it up to 215 lbs lean to date. Is there a point in which this will stop or do I need to seek treatment to prevent an injury from occurring? I havn't found any useful information online about soft tissue specialists that deal with what I am talking about. Anyone have any info or help?

I would definitely get that looked at by a doc. Does not sound like it has gone away by itself so far, so i do not think there is much chance that it will. You may need to lay off chest work for a while to promote healing.
Does it hurt? It could just be your sternum cracking. Don't ask me where it cracks, but I know mine does once in a while
It does feel somewhat better after I stretch it out and make the tearing noise. Im just concerned this could lead to injury or possible damage later on. I cant find any info on this online. Im sure my doc will give me the sound advice of lowering the weights on chest workouts and not stretching so drastically.....thanks :( I will be making a trip to see her anyway just to get her thoughts on it.

Happens to me all the time to, I wouldn't worry about it.
doesnt happen to me can only mean one thing.... MUTANTS!
it has begun
I WISH. I would want to be able to fly, or maybe have Wolverine's super fast healing power, or be the HULK. *heavy sigh*
^ I'd be ****ing jacked with wolverine's recovery rate
I had a crunch/crack noise during a shoulder chest workout.
I had difficulty to breath. Went to the doc and it's broken cartilage. I'm doing light weight upper body, no shoulder or specific exercices that hurt. Be careful, it's a bad place for injury. It's always in movement and take longer to heal. I'm trainning light for a total of 3 weeks.
