Handshakes as first impressions

I cannot stand an impoper handshake! I grew up in a business environment and learned how important a handshake can be when doing business. But, it doesn't matter what the situation is, a poor handshake can turn me off from a person right away.

We have the proper handshake: Meet half way, have a firm but not overly strong one, and look into their eyes when introducing yourself with confidence. Easy, right?

We have the 'dead fish' handshake, where they hold your hand without squeezing or shaking. Immediately I discredit what they are trying to tell me. You are a weak indivudual in some way. Low confindence maybe.

Next is the other person grabs the tips of your fingers instead of going in for a real connection. This makes me think they're an arrogant prick who needs to feel that he is in the dominant person. I think he's a prick in disguise and I'd like to break his hand.

Lastly is props. Stop giving props after you leave highschool! I finished University this year and I was still getting props from guys who were about to graduate. Do you really think you're going to get away with props when you meet your interviewer in the business world!! :sup

Handshakes are one of the first things people remember as first impressions. Learn to shake a damn hand.

props are acceptable with friends, i give prop handshakes all the time with them, but if its business related then yes you should give a proper handshake or a person you havent seen in a while then its a proper handshake and a hug

i find girls do the finger tip squeeze more... before i was into bbing i would be the one giving the firmer handshake and tighter squeeze but now that im a bit bigger i think pretty much every handshake ive had recently the other guy has been all about showing that "hey im strong too, judge by how hard i squeeze your hand"

the one pump shake- a quick grip and one pump. It comes off like they don't want to be in contact longer then necessary, as they are either "superior" or above the person they are shaking hands with.

I hate when you get a "missed" handshake, like both people are going in for the shake but something happens and the hands don't line up properly and both parties involved get a weird awkward half handshake.
