I thought posting a new thread on the same topic would be better than stretching out the lesnar vs Couture thread out to 80 pages!!

Anyways, I thought that was one of the more technically sound fight cards to date so far from the UFC in the last few months. MOst of the fights turned out to be jujitsu clinics and the others were great brawls. We all got to witness probably the best uppercut-knockout worthy of any fight organization high-light reel, let alone the UFC's.

The jujitsu game has been taken to a new level with a coupla new fighters coming into the UFC with a really aggressive approach to bjj, using the rubber guard as a staple to their submission transitions, and pulling off some fancy subs while making them look very routine.

One thing the really stumps me is how Jorge Gurgel still gets fight contracts in the UFC all the while losing almost every fight he has been in it seems. He trains some of the most bjj savvy fighters today yet he couldnt practice what he preaches if a gun was held to his head. That guy ****in cracks me up, he just loves to brawl no matter whats at stake, won't listen to his corner, and almost never uses the cream of his skillset, which happens to be BJJ.

And last but not least, I really didnt know who was gonna take the main event. It almost seems blasphemous to bet against Couture, after what he has accomplished in the heavyweight division, and to see such a young, thickheaded, obnoxious, gorilla like Lesnar with only 3 ****ing MMA fights to his name and one of them being a loss, getting a shot a the title so soon, all the while knowing in the back of all of our minds he was gonna maul poor little Couture like starving Polar bear on a seal. It was hard to swallow, but really, in a division like the heavywieghts, Lesnar is a ****ing war-horse from hell, and he isnt a stupid fighter, and I feel he is pretty well served as a belt holder in a division that is more no-holds-barred than technical skilled.

Anyways, lets hear everybodies thoughts, it was a worthy 50 dollar ppv on my XpressVu bill as far as Im concerned.........

10th planet jiu jitsu school, Eddie Bravo's school. First one north of the border IIRC, be the best place to learn rubber guard, just wondered what the atmosphere is like there

Very much agree with you, MS, that there was some great technique on display in this card. The finish to Hazlett vs. McCrory was astounding, like something out of an Eddie Bravo instructional video.
