So, I went to this on the weekend. First time seeing this show. I was expecting to see some good quality physiques on stage just as I expect to see everywhere else.
Talk about disappointing :(
The women figure looked great. Majority of the women looked as though they should look. The men? Meh. Most looked as though they A) just started working out; B) just started their diets a month ago; C) cheated on the diet and skipped a lot of cardio.
Guys... if you can visuall see your abs in a relaxed pose then you should not be on stage. If you hit a lat spread (fron of back) and there is little different between the top of your lats and waist then you should not be on stage. If you forget your protan... you are an idiot and should not be on stage.
I'm used to competing in the Toronto/London areas and practically 95% of the competitors who show up to shows in these areas could have come to Ottawa and cleaned house. I think I saw 5 guys (being generous) who honestly deserved to be on stage. 2 weight classes went with automatic winners because only one guy showed up.
I swear that men's bodybuilding is moving in a direction of competing for the sake of saying you competed - not to actually win. Let's face it, there's an ego boost about being able to say to someone you've competed but jesus it seems like the norm these days is for people who SHOULD NOT be on stage (for whatever reason - lack of size or conditioning) are actually the ones showing up on stage.
Sorry if anyone here was actualyl in that show and I am offending them but the truth sometimes hurt. I was not impressed and very disappointed people would allow themselves to show up in the kind of condition that they were and still get on stage :(
I understand that sometimes the body just doesn't respond like it should to dieting. It just happens that sometimes you can't dial it in. I've had it happen before and I felt no disgrace (disappointed for sure) in pulling out. It just wasn't my year for whatever reason but no way I would go out if I wasn't honestly ready to do battle and KNOW in my heart that I did everything I had to in order to be competitive and give myself a chance to win.
So sad.
