So, I went to this on the weekend. First time seeing this show. I was expecting to see some good quality physiques on stage just as I expect to see everywhere else.

Talk about disappointing :(

The women figure looked great. Majority of the women looked as though they should look. The men? Meh. Most looked as though they A) just started working out; B) just started their diets a month ago; C) cheated on the diet and skipped a lot of cardio.

Guys... if you can visuall see your abs in a relaxed pose then you should not be on stage. If you hit a lat spread (fron of back) and there is little different between the top of your lats and waist then you should not be on stage. If you forget your protan... you are an idiot and should not be on stage.

I'm used to competing in the Toronto/London areas and practically 95% of the competitors who show up to shows in these areas could have come to Ottawa and cleaned house. I think I saw 5 guys (being generous) who honestly deserved to be on stage. 2 weight classes went with automatic winners because only one guy showed up.

I swear that men's bodybuilding is moving in a direction of competing for the sake of saying you competed - not to actually win. Let's face it, there's an ego boost about being able to say to someone you've competed but jesus it seems like the norm these days is for people who SHOULD NOT be on stage (for whatever reason - lack of size or conditioning) are actually the ones showing up on stage.

Sorry if anyone here was actualyl in that show and I am offending them but the truth sometimes hurt. I was not impressed and very disappointed people would allow themselves to show up in the kind of condition that they were and still get on stage :(

I understand that sometimes the body just doesn't respond like it should to dieting. It just happens that sometimes you can't dial it in. I've had it happen before and I felt no disgrace (disappointed for sure) in pulling out. It just wasn't my year for whatever reason but no way I would go out if I wasn't honestly ready to do battle and KNOW in my heart that I did everything I had to in order to be competitive and give myself a chance to win.

So sad.

No pics. Didn't bring my camera and it would have broke at the fat asses on stage anyway LOL

I didn't go but what else do you expect at an amateur show? They can be hit and miss. For my first show in Ottawa they had a guy that weighed 230 that was pretty ripped and the winner was about 190 I think, with striations like I've never seen. You just never know.

hahaha... i was there. The chicks were great, and there's nothing like being in the lobby with a bunch of half naked figure chicks walking around... whew wee...

There was a few guys that looked awesome, one guy with dreads who looked pretty awesome.

By far the most hilarious thing was some douche who came out to Nirvana, and started his routine with the pec dance... but nothing moved. This kid used waaay too much pro tan, didn't have abs, kinda fat and in general just looked like a moron. Kinda like he lost a bet and had to compete.

I was there. I thought that it was a good show. The number of bodybuilders was definitely low but you can't blame the promoters for that one. It is hit or miss. I guess you could drop by in the morning and ask how many athletes are going to compete.
Oh yeah I also liked it because my client won the overall Level 2.
Here is an interesting link via John Berardi...

I'm pretty sure that the numbers will be up for the London/Western Ontario show so that may be an option for you. It's also the last show of the year for the OPA. Check it out on Nov 15.

If I still lived in the area I would be at the Westerns as I usually go to that as well. In fact, I was actually planning to compete in at L2 it but got sick for a few weeks and injuries started to screw me up. Shitty :(
