Dont take it, it will ruin your stomach. I prefer making my own with 2 scoops of protein powder, a cup of oats, few tablespoons of peanut butter, throw in a banana

You can, but it's not best way / healthiest way. You can make your own shakes with the right stuff for cheaper / better products.
Peri workout you could use Whey protein + a carb like HBCD (Highly branched cyclic dextrin) and between meals: Whey protein + 1T (or more if you really want to add weight) of a fat source like EVOO, Avocado oil, PB or even eggs and/or a small avocado, etc.. much better then the sh!t they usually put in weight gainers.
