i got one of my friends that went last night to the provincial in quebec and before the show started this guy goes on stage and says nobody is allowed to film or take pictures only him could take pictures all night and if a competiter wants pictures hes selling them at 60$ 15 pics, 90 for pics on a CD or 130$ for both. So my question is could this guy do what he says ?? If i go see my son ,wife, cousin... i would need to pay to take a pics of my own relatives?? worst i would need to pay for having a pics of my self ??? dont forget this is only Amateur there's no money involved and how come you could take as much pics as you need to at Mr.O for free and dont forget they all have big contract with big name.Is it even legal doing this???

Ya, it's quite ridiculous. They say it's so that people don't take pics of other competitors and then end up posting them online and trashing them. Anyone knows that the pics you take are never half as good as the professional ones, so most competitors will buy them anyways. It's it's because the flash gets in the way, then tell people to take it off.....of course a lot of people don't listen. I'm sure they have a good reason. You are allowed to video tape it though, if they do not provide that service as far as I know.

yeah but that the thing, my frien his proffessional he does not need a flash to take pics with is cam (is cam cost 12K) so you see what i mean, the guy knows is stuff. this story as nothing to do with posting pics on the net its all about making more money on the amateur that all.

I heard about what happened at the show. Pretty shitty deal. Is exclusive coverage by one photographer allowed? Does anyone know this? Can it happen at the nationals too?
Shit when i did the 2002 toronto's they put a ban on video taping. In the Quecbec federation they do this for pics.

Same rules for the Toba's I heard also and yes it is a bunch of shit they stoped an amazing photographer from taking his amazing photos for this other dude who barely knew the right way to hold a camera and this other dude was giving his photos away for free . I say no money involved how can this dude be making money off of his photos I don't think so .

It usually means they are the official photographer for the event (AI:they are paying up a cut of the profits to the organizers for exclusivity)...but I do think its stupid though..you should be able to allow who ever you want to take pics of you!

The same at NABBA (British),
A photographer will cash in as a sponsor and get exclusive rights to the show, like Pepsi at the boondoggle ( I mean O*y*p*c*) and that means you can't buy a Coke there (or the other way round).
