When doing ab exercises is it best to try and also suck it in for a tva flex as well? On a lot of lifts I find it beneficial to do a tva for stability and a bit of extra core power, but is this a beneficial practice when targeting abs specifically (say on crunches, leg lifts, side bends etc...)?

fully exhale when you flex/crunch, that helps

It doesn't hurt at all.

Variety is always good.

Add voluntary TVA and pelvic floor activation during dead lifts and lower body in general and you will start to push weights that you didn't believe you could.
