Opens Friday. Going to see it on Sunday .
Should be a decent flick . James Cameron does some great stuff and with this being in 3D should be different.

This will be the movie that breaks my boycott of movie theaters. I gotta see what this new 3D technology is all about. He had the camera custom made by Sony just for this movie... plus it's in digital. Digital movies just look sooooooooo much better than film (IMO).
I've seen a few 3D movies this year ,but they have all been kids movies . They were still great as the technology is mind blowing / trippy .

yup, there was an article in a recent issue of Wired that talked about it... waited decades to be able to make the movie. started working with Sony in 2000 to make his custom 3D digital camera.
Looks like a home video interview.

There is a lot of hype and advertising going on for this movie. I hope it doesn't dissapoint. I've had that happen to me numerous times. Spiderman 3 for instance.

Went and saw Avatar last night in 3D IMAX. The special effects are amazing and worth going just for that. The story imo was good but nothing to write home about...no real actors stood out either...deff worth seeing in the theatre though

it was pretty good watched it saturday
It must be much better in 3D. I started watching a good version on ninjavideo and turned it off after about 1/2 hour. I thought the story was far too predictable and the special effects just par for the course. Dancing with Smurfs.

The 3D is astounding. I watched it streaming and it was just ok. I went to the theatre and watched it in 3D and was completely blown away.

Best movie I have seen in a long time. I'll have to watch it again before I pass full judgment but I would say it will likely make my top 5 list. Blew me away like the Matrix did when it came out.
The story line was predictable but still good. I actually started to tear up a few times and it wasn't just the sad stuff. The love story too. I think the 3D and great computer animation had me in suspended disbelief.
It also left me with the profound feeling that it isn't man that is bad but the love of money and power that turns everything to shit. If it wasn't for greed I think the world would be a paradise.

If it wasn't for greed I think the world would be a paradise.
If it wasn't for greed you wouldn't be on here typing... You'd be huddled up in some dark cave, sharping your wooden spear, and praying to Ra or what ever God to help you get dinner.... Your full belly, health, technology, university, the roof over your head, the barbell you use at the gym, the very movie you just watched didn't come about from the goodness of peoples heart. It came about because of the desire to fill up ones bank account...... No different than you..

^^ I don't think so. Everyone wants more than they have. Nothing wrong with that really. But are you willing to **** someone over to get it? Are you willing to lie, cheat and steal in order to gain? Are you willing to kill? That's what I meant by greed. Unfortunately you don't have to look to far these days (or through out history), to find this sort of thing out in the real world.
Here you go Avatar in real life.

Totally agree Thor... I guess i should have clarified myself a bit. The word "greed" has been distorted over time, "greed", the pursute of personal wealth can and must be accomplished by all consenting parties. Another words both parties recieve what they want through mutual consent...
The greed that you mention above comes about because of a massive failure in the justice system.. If true property rights were enacted the justice system would punish those criminal acts... To cheat, steal and kill would be criminal and justly punishable by law..... Which ofcourse far too often is not the case..

You should be able to . I know most of the movies that came out in 3D this year ( Final Destination , Valentine's Day , etc... ) you get those paper blue/red glasses in the dvd case.

Pretty sure you'll be able to view it in 3D at home with the same glasses. I kept mine.
I really like this movie. I thought the story was very good. The special effects were awesome.
My only issue was with the 3D itself. I found some scenes were really hard on my eyes, dunno if it was a refresh or alignment issue, or what.. but I found it hard to focus. Anyone else find that? Also it'd be nice if they used better quality glasses.. the film that was used in them was kinda wrinkly so I had to ignore the minor imperfections.
All in all though, I was thoroughly impressed with this film. It reminded me of the dreams I have where I don't want to wake up.

Avatar was just a really good movie and if you ask me it was a GOOD look into the future just like terminator was. Cyborgs wanting to kill of the human race is fairly easy to imagine as i myself would'nt mind doing the same most days and humans going to other planets in the future and ass raping there world to suite are own needs is by far NO stretch at all.
Shit we are ALREADY killing are planet to the point it's making Earth one step closer to being inhospitable to life sooooo ya guess we will just reach out into space one day and keep taking and useing and distroying for the all mighty dollar or just to keep us all fed and comfortable.
I've seen Avatar twice now and the blue alien chick's voice was just so ****ing sexy i looked on IMBD and dang nab it the chick that played Ohura(sp?) in the new star trek movie did the voice for her. Shit was i shocked.
Anyways IMHO Avatar is an awesome movie and was VERY well done and it's on my top 3 now for sure. Ha im gunna go see it again this wekend, like there is just SO MUCH to see in that movie i wanna watch it again.
Oh is it just me or did anyone else find that chick really hot half way through the movie, damn CGI.....lol;)

i'm torn...the movie was so good...but i want more.
i know sequels are a scary thing sometimes...but this is the guy who made terminator 2, which was arguably better than the first! surely somehow they could make this a series...christ, look at the lip gloss wearing fake vampire shit show a.k.a. twilight.
I seriously could have sat through 8 hours of this movie!
