Put your car keys beside your bed at night

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:
It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it.
It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain....
It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around.

After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that.

And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

Good post Jersey I've see this before. Another good idea is a shotgun. Nothing makes an asshole pucker like hearing someone rack a shotgun.

good tip, i have ran into a problem like this a few years ago with sombody trying to break into my house and found out the hard way, the cops do more to protect the guilty than serve the innocent. ever since then i figured i might as well forget about calling them first and just deal with the problem if it ever comes my way... i think you all know what i mean.

its a para 16-40 limited. .40cal

the pics posted are just internet photos of a couple of my actual guns. The 16-40 I have is outfitted as shown with a dawson magwell, fibre optic front sight, and grip tape.

The mossberg 12 ga is just a simple defender style 3" shotgun..... My actual gun has a laser sight fitted on it though for hip shooting.

This doesnt always work. All my neighbours are either really heavy sleepers or scared shitless. We live in a pretty good and safe neighbourhoold and well i guess one of the neighbours pissed off the wrong person and got his house shot up at midnight. I got outta the hottub checked to see if everyone was okay and not one other neighbours lights even went on. On another occasion my neighbours horn started going off at like 4am and nobody else in the block woke up or even checked out the window to see what was going on....I ended up going out and disconnecting his battery (he keeps his doors unlocked).

I think waderows idea is the best.

Which part of the country are you guys in to be able to own handguns?

I was under the impression (at least in Toronto) that it's next to impossible to legally own handguns unless you practice target shooting as a "sport"/hobby.

you have to join a shooting club or shooters guild, and be a member at a gun range. then you get a permit to possess, store, and transport to and from the range ONLY. But if someone is breaking into my home, they're likely getting peppered if they aren't really ****ing submissive in 3 seconds.

handguns are a restricted firearm not a prohibited one...

i think.

trainharder
25-11-2009, 10:09 PM
But should be stored in a vault, separately from the bullets right? (failure to can lead to a shitload of trouble)

Another reservation I had is thanks to the useless gun registry, cops know right away if a gun is registered to your address, and if they respond to any calls at your place, no matter how pity, they will come in guns drawn as a result..

waderow
25-11-2009, 10:18 PM
you always had to register handguns, and why would you have cops come to your house?

I've never had any dealings with cops.

I would just hate cops to show up with their guns drawn if a neighbor calls in a noise complaint..

they wont. unless you have a history... but if you have a criminal history you cannot get a handgun legally.

I'm in Ontario. You just tell them it's for target shooting. Um oops i mean it IS for target shooting

Doesn't matter. They are not allowed to check for proper storage tell them to get lost. We covered this in my CSSA handgun course. Unless they have a search warrent or it is the CFO tell them to leave.

They dont have to be locked up, they just have to be disabled (trigger locks/part of the action removed)

Just keep a cleaning kit nearby and if you have to use the gun, you tell them you were cleaning the gun and checking the function of the magazine when the intruders made their appearance. Cops are never going to show up and search your house for your guns unless they have a good reason. It should be mentioned though, that uttering threats gives them credible reason to search, so if you own guns, keep your mouth shut.

^^^Only for non-restricted.

Restricted(ie.handgun,AR-15 platforms etc) must have the action locked and the case must be locked aswell. UNLESS it is stored in a unit that is classified as a safe.
