If you were to listen to Dion and Layton, it's end times. Canada though is forecast to actually have either zero growth or very slightly negative growth into 09-10. Our banks are in a much stronger position. Canadians really need to take a look at the US, UK, Iceland, France to see REALLY bad things. The stock market is in the shit mainly due to uncertainty. Also thrown in are banks/hedge funds/over leveraged investors that are selling to improve their liquidity.

The banks are in trouble as someone has stated they collectively have lost more money than they have ever made in the last 100years.
The main cause was money was simply too cheap (interest rates) forcing assets bubbles in housing.
