    Default Ring Pull-ups!

Hey everyone, my gym recently got a ton of new equipment and one of these was a set of rings that we hung from the ceiling! Apart from giving the gym extra badass points, I was wondering if they are good for bodybuilders any, specifically for pullups? I tried them out a few days ago and they were great because they were hung about 6"6 off the ground so I literally can grab onto them and stretch fully with my feet an inch off the ground (lol tall guy problems). Anyways I notice that doing regular pullups is a bit harder with them, I tend to actually go more to do chest to rings when I pull up. It's like it is harder to keep my back straight almost.. do you guys use rings any and if you do, do you find them useful for pull ups or should I just leave them?

    Thanks!

Muscle ups on rings are awesome. Takes a lot of strength, uses every muscle you have.

    ^^^^
Muscle ups are pretty tough for people carrying extra leg mass.
Primal if you can manage strict style with those long arms....I find getting a good arch in the thoracic is best, experiment with the width of the rings as well. You could use some method to lessen the resistance at first, one leg touching a small platform or a band.

Haha, yeah actually my training partner is really into 'functional' movements and he can knock out muscle ups on the rings really easy and quick with no kipping... yeah he makes me look pretty bad sometimes. I've tried to do muscle ups a few times just for fun and I can almost do them on the bar. I can't even get started on the rings because when I get to the false grip, my wrists are literally so small and weak that I can't even hang from the rings with my body-weight with that grip. It's pretty embarrassing, but hopefully I'll build some wrist strength and finally progress with it.

Yeah cog I have have a lot of weight in my legs and with my long thin bones, it doesn't make for a good combination for muscle ups I think! I'll stop with the excuses now :P I definitely find that I can get a much better stretch down at the bottom. I'll see what I can do for the width of the rings, they are pretty hard to adjust because they are attached on buckles to the ceiling and you need a ladder but I'll see what I can do. I was wondering if you guys thought it was useful for maybe your stabalizers? I'm really trying to bring up my core this year and I thought that maybe activating it better with the rings was a good way to go? Thoughts on this?

You have freedom of movement with the rings .Band pull aparts or reverse flyes should be included.

Yeah I heard ring dips are pretty cool as well... only problem is I'd literally have to be able to do a muscle up to actually get up there to do a dip and since I can't do that, I can't do ring dips. I don't know how to do ring flyes cog, is it stuff that the gymnasts do where they extend there arms out to make a T shape?

When they put the rings up in the clouds they are of no use to most people.TRX will substitute. For the flyes your feet go on a 1-4 foot platform, the handles are 1-4 feet in height,do some flyes,if it's tough, bend your elbows. You could also do them standing and adjust the angle of your lean.

pushups with the rings just off the ground are great....you can do a "rack chin" type of move on the rings that is a real mother ****er
