Default Need some Help with Sauces!

Hey everyone! I've been following the keto diet for about 3 days now and everything is going pretty badly... I expected this much though after I did some research onto switching to ketones for as a new energy source. Luckily I think I'm avoiding all of the bad symptoms and I'm pulling through! Anyways, I was wondering if you guys know of any sauces that I can put on my meat? I usually have chicken, pork chops and ground beef. I know Prae gave me a few examples on my last post, but I don't think mustard would go very well with chicken and contrary to belief, I don't want Mike's Red Hot on everything. So, if you guys would know of any sauces that have no carbs and no sugar with high sodium content, I would really appreciate a suggestion for it! Also, just to be clear, my city doesn't have a Costco so if you guys know of a condiment, hopefully they have it at Walmart or Metro. I'd look myself, but with exams so soon, I haven't gone outside the house since last week for groceries. Thanks a bunch!

Yellow Mustard, and pretty much 90% of hot sauces just gotta look at the label make sure there are no cals and the ingredients should only list vinegar, salt, water, a pepper or two, spices

Not a sauce, but a broth for red meat, fondu style, either I use a solid cube made of salt and beef flavor, make my own beef broth from beef bones and add salt or use a onion soup base and cook slice of meat in it. Either chicken breast, beef, venison, horse, bison, etc... I often buy a big pieces of meat that I slice myself.

Or since dry chicken is the worst, you can cook them with fresh coriander, a few slice of green onions, some spices like curry and/or curcuma, salt, etc... cook with a bit a water added when meat begin to be cook, so it keep moist.

I hate to say it Eric but I don't think I have time for your method. Literally I get home, throw some chicken in a glass container with parchment paper in the oven for an hour, and then put some sauce on it. Even my with my veggies, I eat them out of the refrigerated bags you can heat up in 2 minutes... I don't have a lot of time, especially with university exam period upon me....

Looks like you're looking for something sweet.. Keto might not be for you...

You could look into Walden Farms they are calorie free, they have ketchup and bbq sauces... The Ketchup is nothing like ketchup so it's not that ideal imo... The bbq sauces are pretty good, thin but nice. There is a honey bbq which is awesome but I would only use these artificial sauces sparingly...

Heinz makes a low sugar ketchup, tastes exactly like real ketchup 1g of sugar/5cal per tbsp... It has splenda in it instead. Once again not idea for keto.. would have to be used very sparingly

Thanks for the tips on the sauces! To be honest, I do think keto isn't for me, it is really early to tell, but I almost blacked out again in the gym and I threw up afterwards this morning. Before when I was on a carb diet, my only problem was eating to much carbs and that gave me nausea. I'm to early in the diet to tell but if the symptoms keep going like this, I'm going to call quits until summer where I can give my full attention to the diet. Yes, you are right, I have a huge sweet tooth. I'll give the Walden Farms a shot, hopefully they carry them up here.

You need to go 72 hours to get into ketosis. If you are adding in extra carbs then you will feel like shit NOT better. The entire reason you feel BETTER on keto is because you are not starving the brain for energy as with carb cycling or plain low carb dieting. Most people fail on keto for the same reasons they fail on every other diet...because they believe the other way is easier...oh if i have carbs ill have more energy WRONG....i am feeling light headed cause im on keto WRONG. If you get over the psychological idea that being in ketosis ie not eating alot of carbs is somehow depriving you of energy and just follow the program you will be fine.

You also feel like shit because of your addiction...addiction to what you may ask...SUGAR!! The addiction to sugar is as strong as many hard drugs...people just fail to realize this. The symptoms you are going throug are similar to withdrawal...if you give it time and avoid trying to sweeten everything in sight you will start to feel better. You are not helping yourself by adding chemical sweeteners to your diet.

Also when dieting you need to become a creative cook...use a variety of spices, herbs, etc...cook a variety of ways.

One more thing...you are not HUNGRY yet. Trust me when I tell you your hunger will build as your body fat levels drop...its a protection mechanism...then you will thing steak with hot sauce is the best tasting thing on the planet!

You can cook once a week, if you don not want to do your own broth, you can buy (organic) broth cube, it's essentially salt and natural flavors, you do a big pot where you cook all your chicken in it, you weight the chicken into small container and you pour some of the broth into in and you have lunch for the week, the broth keep the chicken moist and tasty, much better then straight chicken.

Sorry for the late reply! School has been dominating my life lately! Thank you all for the suggestions! I decided to get off keto... for now. It was really hard on me and I am for sure going to try it again. After school is done, I can concentrate more time to the diet and that is what I'll be doing this summer. At least I know what it takes now to get to the state of keto. Really cool article Prae! And thank you Eric, I'll try to make all of my meals on one day. Thanks again!

I had issues for a bit sticking to the diet. I found the precook a weeks worth of food to be a horrible idea for me, the food was always so blah. I used to take chicken frozen and throw it in the oven, now I have learned that for me if I thaw and dry my protein properly and cook it daily that the diet is so much easier, perfectly moist salmon needs no mustard.

Quit pretending you are the busiest guy on the planet for a minute, slow down and take the time to do things properly and I promise it'll get easier. I am a trucker in the oil patch who works 15 hour days and then goes to bed right away for the next days work, I used to think I was too busy to cook good but now have realized that I could have cooked salmon, chicken, and asparagus on the BBQ in the time it took me to write this comment.

    Good luck!
