I use to drink a lot of processed milk also (with lactase added so I can digest it) but after talking/reading about the subject I realized what pasteurization and homogenization really do to the milk and how unhealthy it is I stopped. Gladly I learned from here, mostly from Ted (Prae), how raw milk is healthy and a great friend to any bodybuilder.

Cow that are grass-fed instead of corn-fed are much more healthier themselves, their milk have much higher n3 content, lower n6 and much more CLA. Pasteurization not only denature the protein in the milk, kills all the beneficial enzymes and bacterias, but also destroy the fat-soluble vitamins (A,D, E, K), water soluble vitamins (especially vitamins B-6 and B-12) are also destroyed or reduced, this is why they add vitamin A and D (often synthetic, unhealthy D2), but they do not replace the others, raw milk is very good source of the hard to find Vit K.

If you want to read more about raw milk, here is a good site: http://www.raw-milk-facts.com

    About enzymes: http://www.raw-milk-facts.com/enzymes_T3.html

Hi all, just to be clear, the milk I am talking about is from the supermarket (Metro in this case). I think I might have a similar problem with Eric on this matter as well pertaining to the fact that milk does not sit well in my stomach (at least without much food in there) first. I get incredibly bloated and gassy. It is quite uncomfortable. Although I haven't had enough time to research what Eric told me about the casein and milk problem, I do trust that he knows what he is talking about talking to the infamous Praetorian and just judging by his avatar. I really don't know anything about farm milk however, is there anywhere in Ontario that you can buy it without going out to a farm?

Wheat and processed milk are the most inflammatory food you can have. As said, for the raw milk you have to be owner of the cow to be legal, some farmers offer to be share owner of the cows, so you can have access to raw milk, butter, yogurt, cheese, kefir... but be sure to thrust the farmer, as you don't want milk from corn fed cows, the reason why it's mandatory to pasteurize the milk is because of the poor condition and food those cows are subjected to, they often are sick (and it's transmitted to the milk), there can have pus into the milk, etc.. people would be sick if it was not pasteurized. A good farmer that tare care of his grass-fed cows, no antibiotics, ho hormones is rare and hard to find.

Hahaha! I'll make sure I "thrust" the farmer before asking any favours Well I don't live by a farm anyhow and I don't think I would want to take that risk of getting Salmonella or E. Coli anyways. I'll stick to good ol' water. Thanks!

I don't have too much against milk, since I'll have some every few weeks and it causes no issues for me. I'll also have ice cream and again, no issues. It surprises me how many people avoid milk like the plague yet don't have any problem going out for fast food, etc. Just like the IIFYM thread from a few days back - I can't see too much harm if you enjoy some milk every now and then. Lately I've been a fan of almond milk though - especially if regular milk gives you any trouble.

Every now and then a food which people used to think is healthy gets a bad rap and becomes the topic of avoidance. Another good example is fruit, yogurt, cheese, nut butter... Some bodybuilders will avoid all of the above fearing it will make them fat, or 'hold water'. Same with whey protein - bodybuilders start to avoid protein shakes, bars, and so on towards the end of a prep. Somehow the trend of more suffering = better results really took off it seems! While partly true, if you suffer you will likely get shredded, there are always better ways if you ask me.

I do trust the opinions that milk isn't the best food to eat. But it certainly isn't the worst!

Interesting thread. I've never heard that processed milk has so much bad influence. For me it's all the opposite. I don't feel very good after raw milk. Or maybe the one I've tried wasn't very good.

The raw milk must come from grass fed cows, not corn fed cows, if the cows are corn fed you exposed yourself to be sick, since corn is not the natural food of cows it tend to make the cows sick and it passes through the milk, hence the reason why it's mandatory to pasteurize the milk.

One thing I'm doing lately and it seems to go very well, is instead of using raw milk, I'm using pure raw cream from grass fed cows for my protein shakes, all the good of the milk is in the fat (Omega-3, CLA, vitamins, enzymes, bacterias, cholesterol, (healthy saturated fat), minerals, etc...) so you get the benefits of the milk without the sugar (lactose), yes you don't get the milk proteins, but I add them in powder.

I find it's help stay leaner if there is no sugar in my shake and it taste WAY better then if you use olive oil.

Good quality raw milk is an ideal food for a BB looking to build muscle...all kinds of goodness in there. The issue with store bought milk is the pasteurization process basically kills all the good stuff...its not going to kill you by any means its just not the fortified product you are lead to believe. As for soy or almond milk I wouldn't touch that stuff.
