After a bit over a year of Strongman training I've now competed in 2 competitions.

Frame Carry 500lbs for 150ft. I finished 8th out of 9 on this. Grip is my weakest point and it's what I will work the hardest to improve. I never gave up though.

220lb Log Clean & Press every rep. There was a last minute change in the order of events so we had to do Log Press instead of Yoke. I had spongy shoes on and forgot to change into more stable shoes. As a result I had a lot of trouble stabilizing the weight. In training I have done more reps on this event several times

Yoke 660lbs for 150'. I finished 5th out of 9 guys which surprised me because I'm not really good at the Yoke but again, I never gave up.

Atlas Stone 270lbs to 56" platform. This event I am proud of. I was the shortest, lightest and oldest athlete and I finished 4th out of 9 despite being vertically challenged

The viking press went alright but it's not something I'm really good at. I have spent the last year doing push presses or push jerks and on Viking Press this didn't translate well.

Once I tested the apparatus I had 2 weeks to prep for the contest and I did a lot of strict pressing, also watch a lot of videos. I found lots of guys start with a push press then get up on there toes to get a bit more power behind it and then throw their body at the apparatus to get it up there.

I got 6 reps which I'm happy with, it was middle of the pack.

Also, the taller you are the easier it was since the lever point was low and after a certain height gravity was pulling towards the implement rather than down. Hard to explain but think of a barbell curl and the top 25% of the movement being much easier same thing..

In training I had only gotten 2 or 3. When competing with the adrenaline, crowd and good body english I managed 6. You almost have to charge the apparatus.

The lever is about 6-8 feet long but the weight is by the handles close to the athletes. I know the taller you are the easier it is because I am stronger then a few tall guys on the Log and the Axle Press and they easily beat me on the Viking.
