I liked Praetorian's original post BUT there are big dogs and little dogs. There are also big men and little men. If you are a Kenyan distance runner you may not have the genetics to put on big muscle. If you are fine boned you probably won't be the size of Ronnie Coleman. If you aren't doing a fair amount of steroids you likely won't be bigger then an elite athlete like Bob Paris. Yes I know he's incredibly gay but still one of the best physiques in that not quite achievable 220 pounds of stage muscle on a 6' bodybuilder is pretty darn amazing imo. Most people aren't really willing to put a solid 10 years in during their peak athletic years to explore their potential. 16 weeks to bigger abs isn't going to do it.

    Agreed ^ it take discipline:

    -Work hard and intelligently,
-Eat the right food/supplements at the right time,
-Get proper rest to training ratio,
-Be consistent year after year and
    -The most important: genetics!

Appropriate genetic will multiply the results of all the efforts put in the other factors.

It's also becoming pretty clear that how you express your genetics is very related to the effort you put in environmentally. I think it's kind of neat that you can actually modify epigenetics via external inputs (stamp out and abolish redundancy). Still not going to make a little dog a big dog but the genetic predispositions for disease, obesity, all appear to be modifiable with appropriate diet and exercise. Not just fighting to achieve your genetic "potential" but actually fundamentally changing the activation of genes in the body. Now if they could hurry up and cure old age and cancer I would be moderately satisfied.

The other question is...how do you know you have crappy genetics unless you have pushed yourself to the limit for years....answer you dont...and I dont mean pushed it hard while you talked on the phone in the gym and did your heavy set of cable crossovers to really pump it up!

Does this guy look like he has superior genetics?

I remember training a guy, he was about 16y/o 130lbs and 2-3 years later he was 230lbs ish, it was amazing seeing the transformation, progress was so fast. As Prae says, you cannot see the genetic potential until you push it, but once you push it it does not take long to see which one has it, or not.

I think the biggest secret to getting big without using anabolics is to use hormones...generally people label it "organic" which is secret for a farmer with an 8th grade education who is using his "bro-science" to control your moods for the rest of your life. Its complete bs for guys like us who train for year after year and cant comprehend how these guys who just show up from no where... and they are already bigger than us..soon enough though the law in parliament will pass saying that its not only just illegal to sell but also illegal to have them..
