Default After years of cardio/isolation I'm trying powerlifting...

And am seeing benefits I thought I'd never be able to see. Ie. my chronic lower back and shoulder pain is slowly going away, and it's been an issue for a while.

So I'm looking to stick with powerlifting. I'm only six weeks in to the Stronglifts 5x5 program so I'm obviously a complete noob, but I'm curious if cardio can ever be worked into a lifting routine? I like the idea of being strong instead of just another skinny guy doing circuit routines, but I don't exactly want to run out of gas quick or have my overall fitness level drop from just lifting heavy (eventually).

Power equals speed and explosiveness...along with some GPP work as every powerlifter should be doing...why in the world would your overall fitness level drop?

I'm assuming GPP work means cardio?

NOT traditional cardio(running, stepper, etc)..that basically sucks for many reasons....see bobbyorr's post below.

Hey man! I train in two spots. I try to get as much work in at O-town crossfit, the owners are incredible, and when i can't make it there, my wife trains at the good life in barrhaven. They have a prowler there and I have a sled at home

Shane have you ever thought of trying strongman training? A strong guy like you would do really well.

We are in Gatineau close to the Promenades, 10min drive from downtown Ottawa. You should come try it out some Saturday morning.

We have a prowler and sled and train indoors year round. Also have a 200lb sandbag, logs, axles, stones, yoke, etc...
