Default Weight class changes for Canadian Nationals? mistake or not hmmm

Just pulled this off the entry form below on the CBBF website...Looks to me like they renamed the light-middleweight class as middleweight and grouped last years middleweights with the light-heavyweights making a huge class from over 176 to 198lbs. I certainly hope this is some kind of mistake ...end up on the light end of this class and you're toast!

don't worry about it. its is for sure a mistake. They always do this mistake in shows, and its always related to light middle.

PS: will you be doing class division too this year, and if so what class? Or would you need to re-qualify?

Yes i figured it would be a mistake but you'd think that CBBF would be on top of that kind of thing. Anyways yes i'm doing Nationals again. As far as the rules are concerned any class win at Nationals gives you a lifetime bye to compete anytime you want. But even if they were to reverse that rule because it was a classic win and not open i'd still have my provincial open class win that gives me 2 byes to use anytime i want. Regardless i'm finalizing accomodations and travel arrangements early next week (only 16 weeks to go)

If this is indeed a mistake then it needs to be brought to CBBF's attention so that the correction can be made accordingly.

It seems as if they eliminated the light middleweight class.

I also noticed the masters weight class cut off is now 176 as opposed to the 187 cut off in previous years.

An FYI, the weight classes are correct. They have been changed to bring the weight classes more in line with the North Americans. The changes have also been made to suit the presidents of the IFBB and the US.

wow really? man there are going to be some guys who will be upset about that one. but i guess it makes sense logically. still a 20lbs difference in a class is huge at that level. I was thinking about competing open but there's no way i'm stepping on stage with the likes of Patrick Bernard and Marco Zaborac and Larry Vinette. oh well. Classic i am.

Yeah, I hear ya Delt King!! That is a big difference, especially when all the other classes are only 11 lbs.

It affects many of them men in the masters light and heavy weight classes as well. The cut off use to be 187 and is now cut back to 176. A master guy at 178 or even 190 against a master guy at 225 or more is a huge difference!!

this won't affect the guy at 178 pounds...that person will cut another 2 pounds if they are smart. whether its fat or water...

It will affect the 187 pound guys who used to be at the top of their classes, and now have no option but to be in the middle of the new class. In my opinion, that actually isnt the problem. There is one major flaw with this, and this is why I think that there is no way this will actually happen. Middleweight class is the BIGGEST class of this show and most shows, with light heavy not being far behind. So what do they do? combine them?? sheesh. Its dumb, and even if it is to match up north americans, why is NAs like that? why have all the classes seperated by 11 pounds except the two biggest classes? Oh well...it might happen this year, but this will be the last year. same as combining masters bodybuilding with the figure show...they will realize this is a mistake. I just have a hunch someone will catch it sooner - as in, when they see at weigh in the classes have all between 10-13 guys except the one class with 38 competitors. lol.

Oops my bad. My numbers are dyslexic. I meant to type 187 and not 178. Yeah sure the guys closer to the cut off can drop a few extra pounds but the guys in the middle will be just that....in the middle. No, it may necessarily not be a problem if the guy is very well balanced and can hang with the bigger guys. It's not always the biggest guys winning.

The Canadians were the only ones that made sense with the weight classes the way they were. Like you say Steve, the "new" middleweight class will be very large with a lot of guys in the class. I could see them combining the smaller classes like bantam and lightweight but not eliminating light middleweight.

At the NA's they do have more classes for masters men then they do here in Canada. In the masters classes there, they offer all the classes as they do in the open men's classes. They didn't do that for Nationals here though. Maybe to be a step closer in the right direction, they should split the masters classes into light, middle and heavy then, rather then just 2 classes.

They only tried to combine the masters with figure to try and bring in more sponsors for the show.

Everyone I've told about this are shocked...and they aren't even affected by it. Wait until weigh in, when the guys who dehydrated to get to 187 find out....
