Default How Much Would You Pay Ovechkin?

How much do you feel Ovechkin would be worth for the year?I wouldn't give any Russian a multiple year contract.Or maybe any player.

I wouldn't pay any player over a million, drop ticket prices and make hockey about hockey again and not the money.

After this past 2010-11 season I think he would command much less than if he were negotiating after his 2009/2010 year. One year deal 8-10 million?

Considering he was one of the only players on his team who showed up in the post season I would say he deserves to be payed the highest. I couldnt be more disappointed in the performances Backstrom and Green. Such a let down.

He can put the puck in the net, so $6million, perhaps 7.

no player should be paid more then 1 million dollars. The rest should be performance bonus's.

I would love to see the NHL adopt international ice surfaces too, the games are so much faster, so much room out there. more enjoyable game then all this clutch and grab crap we have in the NHL right now. It's a pipe dream that will never happen, but right now i am watching more international games then the stanley cup playoffs.

1 Million doesnt go a long way for a professional athlete.
My buddy plays professional baseball in the Jays system. His current salary is $900,000USD/year (playing at the AAA level).
When he was back last summer he broke it down for us and I was shocked:
    Gross Income: $900,000
    Federal tax rate 35% = -$315,000
    Agent Fees(6.5%) = -$58500
    State Tax (6.5%)= -58500
    Accountant Fees (5%)= $45,000
    Lawyer/Retainer Fees(2%/annually basic contract reviews)= $18,000
MLB Players Association Union Fees (.5%)= $4,500
MLB Retired Players Pension Association (1.5%)= $13,500
    Health/Life/Medical Benefit/Insurance (4.5%)= $40500
    TOTAL DEDUCTIONS: $553,500 USD

    Net Income: $346,500

Still a hell of a lot of money to 'net' each year but factor in their short shelf life for the average pro athlete.
