    Default Help again

MP buddy I'm looking in your direction, you seem to know your stuff lol.

So my computer has been taken over by one of those fake anti virus programs. I have no internet access, it won't let me run my anti virus or malaware bytes. My comp is literally in lockdown. I tried to start it in safe mode and run the programs,no dice.

Here's the bigger problem. I didn't make the reformat disks when I bought the comp. So my question is, is there a way to wipe the hard drive without a boot disk, and then I can go out and buy windows 7 again and install it?

lol, so it made you a basic user and doesn't allow you to install as you're not an admin anymore. Haven't seen one of those in a long time.
Don't know how bad it is but you should boot to the command prompt (that C:\> looking thingy). Try the format C: command. It might not work. If it doesn't, the easiest way to do this is get your hands on a windows 7 cd and boot up and reformat/reinstall from there. There are *cough* free ways to get windows 7 online. But you got to be ready to do some work. If you just want it fast and no headaches, get a cd and redo from there.

P.S. If the format command works and you have other partitions, destroy and recreate the partitions and reformat them too (fdisk is the command). The advanced virus' should have infected those areas too.

What about doing a system restore ? Pick a date ( last week sometime ) when everything was working fine.

Can work if the virus didn't block it. I'm leaning on it having blocked it. gicantor, follow the link and if it looks similar to that virus, you can attempt the removal process if the restore doesn't work.

I want headache free so i'll probably just buy the new cd that way i have the disks for next time should it happen again. Luckily future shop has them on sale. This is the second time I've been hit with this. The first time malware took care of it. This time it seems a little more difficult.

Ya I already tried this remedy i started googling fixes on my blackberry when it happened and tried this. It didn't work either.

Does anyone know how I'm picking these up? I haven't even downloaded anything. All I do is go on forums and youtube.

Infected sites or malicious sites usually cause this. You get to the site and all of a sudden a popup comes on that looks like a windows antivirus and you may inadvertently accept a download/fix click and the rest is history. I have never seen this attack from youtube yet.

Might work if you have similar hardware. If it does you will need to update some drivers on your HP. You should be able to find everything on HP's site.

A few questions before you Format C:
    What version of windows?
Can you see hte Administrator account at the login screen?
    What fake AV is it?

You if you are somewhat computer savvy try a linux boot disk that has AV loaded. Go here....http://www.inside-security.de/insert_en.html
