Man, we need more guys like Big Dan in this sport....You are very well worded Dan, and i really like your style.....Thanks a tonne for sharing with us here....Much respect...

I think it is awesome seeing you and Dan Dufresne at these alberta shows....It is nice to see 2 pros hanging out, beinng fellow competitors and still friends is a cool thing to see.....
Good for the young fellows as well, its not about talking down to fellow competitors, we are in this together, like the old days, have some fun, make some jokes, work your ass off and eat a shitload when all is done...lol...Not bash and cut down and lose integrity while trying to accomplish a goal...

Thanks for the positive words ironwill. Though we've never had any indepth conversations when we've seen each other at shows it's always good to at least have that little chat. Being as private as I am I forget that my welcome mat is rarely displayed well in public. To some degree part of this is intentional but I truely do appreciated when guys like yourself take the initiative to stop and talk. I'm always happy to converse as long as personal and private boundaries are respected. I'm pretty sure Double D feels the same.

Unfortunately I for one will not be attending Muscle Beach this weekend. But I'd like to commend Tye for always putting on a great event and going overboard with his guest posers. Maybe he should change the name of the show this one time to Muscle Beast to reflect the quality of the guest he is bringing in.

    Dan is the real deal.

I had the privilege and honor to spend a few hours with him last weekend when he came back to the Peg for a visit... just as he was quoted in his interview - he is no BS and doesn't mix words. He has strong opinions but has good reasons to back them up.

I have looked up to him for years, and my respect for him continues to grow. We have a lot in common and his words of advice really have an impact on me. He knew going in I'd have a lot of questions for him but he was more than willing to answer everything. He is a true professional (even without that cute little blue card... ha ha ha) and a real champion, not just on stage but in life.

Dan is a good man, and I wish him all the best for the future. I am a better person for knowing him and will forever be grateful for his friendship.

Thank you to CBB for making the effort to conduct this interview as all CBB will benefit.

    Cheers,
    XXXL

    Default Full circle

In response to XXXL's post, it was my honor to meet up with him and one of my first bodybuilding idols and a man who had a considerable influence on my path in this sport; Mr Tony Ayre. I looked up to Tony since I first competed and look up to him to this very day. I greatly appreciated the 15 minutes (I took 25) of his time he afforded me every bit as much as I did back in 1988 when he met my training partner and I (notebook in hand) to properly show us how to do chin ups, seated rows and a few other exercises. A legend in in Canadian bodybuilding and a truly honorable and respected man.

Pictured below are 3 generations of Mr. Manitoba winners:
Centre; Tony ('82 King of the 'Peg) Ayre, on the right standing in second place spot, XXXL & my buddy Darren Mehling - co owner of Freak Fitness and a legitimate trainer of champions (2009 Mr. Manitoba) and me ('93 winner).

Noteworthy trivia: Tony was the 2008 CBBF National Team World Qualifier Championship Men’s Masters Overall Champion. He was trained by no other than XXXL. Man am I envious.

The above picture and explanation are incredible. Thank-you for putting it up. I'm sure we all have someone we idolized and aspired to emulate...... That photo is valuable.

    Thank-you for sharing it.
