concept of being a mod varies i suppose, but ultimately you want members participating / contributing which should be encouraged. When a member steps over the line warnings are required and thus if they go unheeded discipline. I have been reading this thread, and jokes about banning and the hammer etc.. fun and games, but no mod should want to ban a member, they should work with the members and try to guide them down the right path... well in my mind anyways lol
and for the dumbasses banning yes, but the term would be "time out" for a few weeks hoping that member has learned their lesson when or if they return...
there are always more details the deeper one looks

I'll mod but only to delete first posts with no stove.. oh and those first posts with a picture of a couple grand in gear asking if it's any good.
This is very true and goes for managing, or leading, or modding any group of people....same concept applies....2 in 10 , there are normally 2 people in every group of 10 that need extra HELP if you will...
I manage people for a living and have to live this every day....as much as some people get pissed at mods, there is something to be said for their patience for ther most part imo (there are asshole mods)...its like a step system, warning, warning with a good chat, warning with discipline, then ban....or firing...
but as with any good manager, its the ones that you can turn around and help to act proper in the culture you have joined , that truly shows how good you are...some truly are unhelpable, definitely not most...but some.
anyone can ban and be a power freak, but the good ones can help show the troubled another way,,, through empathy, and good coaching abilities..
