School Bullying

So we are getting ready to embark on a new school year. The kids are already at each other. The other day my son is playing with a few of his cohorts when they just outta the blue start namecalling another kid. I go over and give my son shit. The other kids start beaking at me. Another parent comes over and we get into it. She starts giving me shit for giving my son shit. I flat out told her to **** off and mind her own ****ing business. I don't parent her kids and she should not tell me how to raise mine. She called the police. So I spend 20 mins talking to the police, who pretty much were going to arrest me for telling off a stupid bitch. Once they got to the bottom of the shituation, they looked at her and asked if she had a problem with me stopping the name calling by my son.
She then proceeds to say that we should just let the kids play and be kids. The cop who has 2 kids of his own looks at her and walks away. Since the cops would do nothing, she calls her fat ass hubby to come over and "sort me out". The cops hadn't left and chubs comes up and shoves me. I decked him, he was a one shot wonder. So now I have a court date, ****.

LMAO, dude I dread the day this happens to me, and you can bank on it that it will. I will not tolerate bullying. If I ever see my kid or another bullying my boy I dont know what I'd do. I replay the scenario in my head all the time.

Like what do you do if your kids being bullied? Talk to the parents? What if they dont believe you? Then what? I think if it happens just walking him to school so the other kids see me, and that Im a big dude will be enough to prevent them from messing with him, lol. I know if worked for me when I was young and people knew my old man, lol. I sent him and my older brother, who were both bodybuilders, to bullies houses and after that talk they were pretty nice to me, hahaha.

I hope all goes well in court....he came at you first and you were protecting yourself right, so...

but anyways i think bullying is horrible,
i use to tease alot of kids when i was younger, including my lil sister.
looking back at it now I really regret it.
no one deserves to be bullied.

cops were just back, they had a chat with buddy and he's seen the light and dropping the charges as my counter charge was against both him and his wife. Talk about small town drama. The female cop was the one who said their report shows him coming at me and I only hit him once, I didn't do anything else after that. The best part is there is a mutual peace bond. I guess I'll hear all about it from the town gossips. I have no marks on me at all, he on the other hand has a nice bruise on his jaw by his ear.

I'm with JonnyO, my son is 2.5 now so I guess I will have to deal with that shit in a few years. He's a small kid also so I really hope he doesn't get picked on.

Jonny0, as a school teacher , I have a unique chance to see the type of kids who are routinely bullied. Every parent wants their child to be popular and this does not necessarily mean having to succumb to the stigma of wearing the right clothes and having the latest accessories. Their confidence and peer acceptance is developed early in elementary and the best thing I can recommend is have your child play sports. even if they are not the next prodigy in whatever sport it may be have them play all the school sports in gr 6 and gr 7.... basketball, volleyball, track...etc Inevitably this will slot them in to a 'popular' group and give them a social network that is healthy and competitive.
Now as far as day to day teasing you must teach your child to be able to take a joke. You can not expect them to walk around all emotionally armored up and as soon as someone makes a joke about them they start swinging or flip out. Teach them to be good sports , teach them self humility ...any parent can do this by poking fun at yourself and demonstrating its ok to have fun with certain personal flaws or quirks. Everyone is human.

What did you expect from this? beaking off, back and forth doesn't stop bullying, it encourages the power struggle that the bully wants. You getting involved just encouraged it. You actually became the role model bully as you beaked off to the kids (you are big and wanted to exert your power over them) and then you beaked the mom (exerting power over her) and eventually hit the hubby (exerting power over him). You are a bully.

I'd honestly bet that your son was the aggressor, based solely on your actions in this story. They learn it from their parents.

Macka did say that his son started the problem and that he disciplined him alone. Maybe I'm missing something? I usually agree with most things you post.

As for kids learning from their parents....hopefully those other kids picked up that if you go beaking and sticking your nose where it doesn't belong you can get stung.

I am actually an elementary school teacher, I just get really fed up with parent's and their bully attitudes and not expecting kids to take and learn from it. To me this rant is just an asshole being a bigger asshole around his kid and other kids.

I was disciplining my kid for his unnacceptable behaviour. The kids he was with were on the verge of getting physical, their body language, their verbal language and the fact they had circled the kid in question are pretty good indicators that they were bullying. I only talked to my son at first and the kids turned on him. I told them to leave. No swearing, no yelling. The mother of the one child came to me, ranting. I was using a calm voice, and she was the one getting her blood up. She called the police, she made the complaint. Her fat husband came up to me, and shoved me. I defended myself. What is so wrong with that?
As a school teacher you sure like to label people. For those that know me in person, know I am a mild guy, with a bent sense of humour.

You did good Macka... why the lady would try to argue with you for sticking up for the young kid and then try to tell you how to disipline your own is beyond me.. and fat ass had it coming too, lol.

The thread brought back a funny memory. When i was in grade 7 I moved to the other side of town. i moved in the summer and the kids on the street took to making fun of me, i had a slight speech impediment back then. So the pack would tease me and chase me down every chance they got. it was hard enough going to a new school, but the pack would make fun of me on the bus, on lunch ect ect....

This went on for a couple weeks and i finally had it.. i got off the bus in the morning and waited for the biggest guy in the pack to get off... and I layed a beating on him in front of all his buddies... left him crying on the ground, lol.

School policies may change.... zero tolerance for violence ect... but the way to stop a bully will never change.

I find now with my kids that girls are much worse at singling out other girls and picking on them than boys ever are.

With boys there's a pecking order which is usually ended with fists involved.

Girls don't fight (generally) so it becomes difficult to stop girl bullies as you can't punch the shit out of them.

Grab your kid and walk away. Would of avoided everything that escalated beyond that. You have the court date and ****ed up kid, not them. Fix yourself instead of yelling, screaming and shoving others in hopes to "fix" everything that does not tickle your fancy at that moment.

Court was dropped. I wanted to sort my kid out by example seeing that he was part of a group bullying another kid. Its not right to not say anything when you see a child being bullied by a group. My kid was with a group of kids, not the ring leader. I don't want him to be that kind of kid. He's not ****ed up, he is a typical 5 year old, but gave into peer pressure. The kid who led the bullying is a teachers child, and should know better. The parents who confronted me, used force and were trying to intimidate me. She had no clue what was going on other then I was in the playground telling the kids to play elsewhere. She went off half cocked, yelling and swearing and waving her arms in my face. She called the police into the situation when I told her off. Yes I swore at her, yes I lost my temper a bit, but hey, I am human right? I don't have to put up with someone yelling and swearing and threatening me.
What would you do if a parent jumped in your face like that? You sure wouldn't turn your back would you? I know in the school that the police are called for unruly parents, and you are allowed to defend yourself. Why was I in the wrong? You seem to miss the point, and accuse me of bullying and having a ****ed up kid. I think you need to reread the anti bullying credo the kids recite. Also take into effect, I was angry when I wrote the original post, and the fact that the situtation was no win for me no matter what. I had to vent, so I did. You seem to be the only one who thinks I was completely wrong.

I've had issue's with my daughter being the bully, she no longer is after our talk. My son is an artsy fartsy kid he gets picked on by the local bullies, not so much now that he's in grade 8 and has proven he won't take shit. This too was after our talk. Yes i was the bully when i was a kid but both my kid's have turned out great.

While I tend to agree that the best course of action probably would have been to just remove yourself and your son from the situation and it probably wasn't a real good example to set by laying the pushy fat **** out, hindsight is always 20/20 and faced with the same situation I'm sure many of us would have reacted the same way.

That said reading this made my day. Right or wrong, a member of the bullying family getting knocked out is vindicating. Glad to hear the charges got dropped, that could have been a dirty expensive mess to deal with.
