Just curious if anyone has either tried or their thoughts on going into a competition but without going through the process of using a tanning bed? I mean, is it possible? More layers of Pro-tan earlier in the week leading up to the show? thoughts?

I find that without a decent base tan you come out with an orange colour look with just protan and dream tan alone.
I hate pro tan and will do whatever it takes to not have to use it so I will tan like a mofo in hopes to avoid using it.
It's possible but i find the colour ends up more yellowed and orange rather than dark brown/black if just protan.
Sean Summers does spray tanning and i used that method once and loved it. I didn't have enough time to tan in a bed but used 7 coats of protan followed by a spray tan and it was my darkest and best color IMO.
I had to do it... I started applying pro-tan a week out... I have skin issues which my dr told me means no tanning beds/ sun... i think I was a slightly different shade than the other competitors, but all in all it worked ok. (well until the day after competition when I realised someone applied dreamtan on me with latex gloves and I have a latex allergy and was ITCHY)
Having a base tan always looks better when adding tanning products. I am not one who tans all that easily so I run melanotan for a few weeks and Im very dark by the end of it...then it is just maintenance...much easier on the skin as well.
P
I didnt tan once prior to going into contest, and my color was great, used jan tana products, I did 2 coats the night before, dried it off for a couple of hours, then showered some off...Woke up in the am did 2 more coats, and got lots of comp, liments from the judges on my color....
1 st one colored, second one natural color...Im dark naturally...
natural in my avi, and colored...
Maybe im a bit pumpkin orange....lol...dont listen to me.....:D great idea for a halloween costume...
I've noticed the europeans like the bronzy colour and the americans piss all over it. Is there a bias in canada?
Some people can get away without a tan, and some people can't. The biggest factor is you're natural skin tone. 1 person could start out darker by tanning all the time compared to another who is slightly pale, and the pale guy could put a couple of coats of protan and have a much better look than the other guy.
That's why you see 10 different people all using the same protocol all looking totally different.
Thank you for all the (quick) replies. I was curious about this mainly due to risks associated with beds and tanning in general. I know ethnicity and natural colours can play a large role but for someone with Northern European ancestry (some freckling, somewhat pale skin colour, couple of moles/spots) I'd been wondering if it were possible to get away with it.
I just used 4 coats of protan last show and some posing oil for shine and felt like i had very decent colour. I had someone who knows what there doing to help apply it tho so it was not blotchy. This year depending on the financial situation i would love to get "tan like the pros" by sean summers and his wife to do the spray tan because it simply looks excellent and is way easier.
In Canada, for BB... a lot of national competitors use protan or jan tana and no dream tan. The dream tan fills in the separation and striations in the muscle and helps to nicely flatten out the physique. IMO - jan tana competition or hi def color (even with no tanning bed) works for me - a pale natural red head that does not react well to the tan beds. I've done the protan with dream tan, and judges have told me I look "green" and not the warm bronze that is preferred.
Every skin tone is different, and it might take a while to find the combination that works.
in Russia we use only dream tan...on my avatar this color-is it look bad?
so no dream tan in Canada?? i think pro tan looks to light and without shine...
I liked Jana Tana!!!
