is this your first show, if not what was your previous weight at the show. If it is in fact you're first show, you'd be surprised how light one can be before being in bang on shape. Don't really pay attention to that scale, which means keep getting as ripped as you can, even if that means you're 170.
awesome...I might be there to watch the show. I watched it last year. I did it back in 1997-2001 as a junior, back then the junior category was small (around the same time that they got rid of the weight classes). I guess now the junior class is getting bigger, so who knows if they'll have classes or not.
Hopefully one day I'll move back to NS and be competing at that show.
I'm IN !!!! Heavy, Couples, and Masters !! :)
I don't compete, but ill be there watching a few guys i know take 1,2,and,3 in the Heavy's again this year!
We have 200 Pounders over at Moxam Fitness in Sydney River. Got them up too ..but only for a single.. Thats gonna die off as i get weaker dieting for the show. But doing 200 Lb dumbells doesnt win ya a show. So i gotta leave the ego at the door when i go workout VERY soon and just focus on training HARD. :)
hey everyone this is my first post here. I want to compete this year first time, junior heavyweight woo.
I train down Cole Harbour. Right now i've been bulking up since September. Put on about 35 pounds. I'm up to about 205 right now 10%bf. I started doing 20 minutes of cardio a day this week. As January comes around i'll be adding 5 minutes a day of cardio per week. Keeping my calories up to about 4000. I'm starting to play around with the fst-7 concept. How about you?
I can't wait for the Fisherman to start bringing their catch to Halifax, I ate a ton of Lobster last year mmmmm.
I'll be going to watch the show again this year. Have you guys mentioned weight classes you'll be competeing in this year? besides btufts jr heavy i know..
I think its just overall under 21 for juniors but as someone stated in another post that there were weight classes.
i think i just shrunk for the most part. That was my cut down weight but i got it done by the trainer in my gym and it was 9%. I either lost a lot of muscle or he messed up as i was a lot leaner. I have a bit of a different game plan, starting earlier and taking my time cutting down, keeping cals and good fats higher. I hope to be a very ripped up 180 by April.
90% of bodybuilders ahve no idea what their actual bodyfat% is. Its iimpossible to gain 35lbs in 3 months and go from 170-205 and only have 10% fat. Unless u started at 170 at 4% bodyfat and took a rediculous amount of steroids and then ate the biggest meal of ur life loaded in salt and drank a gallon of water and weighed urself while wearing cloths and shoes at night then maybe its possible.
My bodyfat is higher then 10% and I am not even 205 I have not even gained 35 lbs in the last 3 months and 3 months ago I was competing dehydrated on stage. I wish everyone would stop quoting body fat percentages because it makes others feel they are fat.
Very few bodybuilders at the NS provincials will compete under 5% fat (most will be the winners) if u are 205 at 10% then u only have 5% fat to lose 5% of 205 is only 10.5 lbs 205-10.5 lbs is 195 take away 10 more lbs for deehydration effect and all that and ud be 185 on stage, If u were 170 3 months ago then ur stage weight at the time would have been 165 max so based on that ur tellign us u pained 20 lbs of muscle in the last 3 months. I am getting frustrated with all the people out their exagerating their muscle gains. It makes normal people who put on say 5 lbs of muscle in a year thing they are so called "hard gainers" when in fact they are not. I consider myself an easy gainer and have averaged 3 lbs of muscle gained a year. Do the math.
I do agree with you Gregg, I don't like to go by the calipers because they are not accurate and i do not think my bf is accurate. 170 was my cut weight. 3 months prior i was close to 190. September i began to bulk again starting with 3000 cals till i plateaued at 195 and was very bloated. I then started taking weight gainer and creatine monohydrate from October till the end of November with my calories at 4000. I was 210 but shit i was bloated. Dude how much do you weigh? I remember seeing you at the Nubody's in burnside maybe September and you looked masssive. How much of my weight is muscle i have no idea. i suspect theres a lot of water but my abs are still very visible.
3000 cals a day is not really enough calories to be a bulk diet. But if ur gaining weight on 3000 then u definetely dont need to eat more. Another thing is that 99% of people cannot accurately calculate the calories they are eating. I know I made plenty of miscalculations in earlier years and now I dont even bother counting.
May u should have stayed at that 195 lbs weight, gaining more is not good its jsut fat gain which makes getting cut harder. Plus if ur really lean offseason ur skin will be tighter and ull look even better whne u do compete. Just think how those competitors on biggest loser look after they lose weight. They could get down to 4% fat but still look horrible on stage because their skin would not get shrink wraped over the muscle. The closer tyo contest shape u remain off season the better u will look come contest time. U dont need to get fat to gain muscle. I never get fat and always gain muscle. THis bulk craps is for the birds. I did it once and had to diet my ass off to get in shape and it was I think the only time I never won my class in the provincials. In september I was weinghing in the very low 190's
I feel ya on that, i'm a bit taller aswell (5'10) It sucks being light with long limbs. check out the pic i posted up in the member picture section let me know what you think as to how much it would take to get into contest shape. Quads look good too but i havn't posted a pic yet.
B
I'll be doing this contest natural too so it will be pretty hard against some of these guys.
this is so much on the money. everyone thinks they are a hard gainer. And the ones that don't actually are great at gaining...gaining fat.
being a hard gainer vs. an easy gainer in my mind is all determined by how hard you train. Greg is an easy gainer because he trains smart and consistent. I am not as much of an easy gainer because my training isn't always 100% for whatever reason I have at the time. I've gained about 25 pounds in 10 years. to me that's awesome, how can anyone complain with 25 pounds more muscle?
The hard gainers are guys that are looking to put on 10 pounds in a month, and don't, and then quit and complain they are hard gainers.
Same goes with fat people. They have the ability to get in shape, but because they see some ripped dude eating a candy bar, they assume they are just not cut out to be healthy. therefore they must have a "thyroid problem".
So anyway, to btufts, if you were 170 in september, and you're natural, unless that 170 was dehydrated contest day weight, then don't be upset if you're come in under 170.
i wouldn't really care what weight i come in when contest hits. When i was 170 i wasn't being very strict with my diet or drinking enough water, it wasn't for contest prep, also i was doing higher intensity cardio which i believe doesn't work well for me. A goal for me would be to come in at 170 but way more shredded. I'm playing around with a new diet for now, low intensity cardio, taking things slow and keeping the intensity high in the gym, which in theory will produce a great finished product no matter what weight i come in.
let's see some photos at 170. I am sure you took at least 1 or 2.
i do, this is when i was about 170
Good post, very for the lack of a better word "inspiring". Gaining weight aka fat can be very easy for some people. Some people can't gain much at all but will gain muscle instead with the right diet. If you gain 30 lbs say 22-25 being fat. The same guy who gains 15 lbs could have gained 5-7lbs of muscle. Making him the same size or larger come contest day and his cut will be easier and more managable. Wish I hadn't taken the whole offseason bulking diet to the extent of Dennis James, aka not being able to get up after a meal for hours.
I learned that the HARD way for 2 YEARS Bro...Finally listened to some Vets and its paying off this year nicely. Feel alot better and as far as Strength goes,,, It was still there and more maybe after only gaining 25-30 lbs offseason instead of the normal 70 lbs or more. :( Not to mention being able to tie yer own shoes without going into cardiac arrest from not being able to breath...lol And my blood pressure/ Cholesterol is SOOO much better as well.
I cant remember if ur a Junior or not Cam. If so could make the trip to nationals as a junior but u might be shocked at the size and conditioning of some of those guys. Just look at Antoine Vailante from quebec. As a junior he was already a monster.
Yup...Quite the Build on him for a 20 yr old. !! Heres a vid on MD of him....

Well its On....My Wife and I started our Diet Today. :) Feel good and Very Positive about the Starting point and hoping for a much different and BETTER package come show day !!! I can say this tho..its going to be ALOT easier this year being alot leaner going into the prep. :)
Carb up day was awesome, 4 eggo waffles with syrup and butter, hamburger on toast with spinach ketchup and relish, cheesecake, and then regular cake. best meal of my life.
Should be a VERY good show this year....And ya never know whos gonna show up or whos gonna totally transform from previous years and who knows ,,,maybe a newcomer come into the mix and blow everyone away ?? "If you manage to win your class in the show you go in,,, Its because someone Better didnt show up" !!!
Hey guys,
Seeing as you're all from NS, just wondering about any advice for a newbie. Where do you learn how to pose?
