Who can say masculine and feminine... Well, let's be real here. Men naturally have more muscle than women. Some women have more muscle than some men. I compete and there are probably thousands of women who have more muscle than me. If you had to draw a distribution of muscle mass women vs. men, you would have some overlap, but the curve would be shifted in the sense that men have more muscle than women on average. So that is how masculine and feminine are defined. It's also very subjective as BLP posted a handful of women who he finds not masculine at all. However, the general population would not agree with him. And you cannot say that people are wrong with how they feel or think. It's very subjective, if a girl has abs, I find it sexy. Other men would say its disgusting. Who's right? No one. All personal preference. I never once said I don't find her attractive. I find lots of shapes and sizes attractive. That wasn't the point. But when I say things like 'slightest hint of masculinity' I suppose the more politically correct thing to say is they might be better softer. HOWEVER, a girl like Nathalia would in fact not do as good if she was softer. at that point, she'd simply be too big. If she carried the same amount of bodyfat as the winner, she'd place lower. Her strength is getting lean and drawing the attention to those things as her strengths. But at the end of the day, when the dust settles, the judges on that day could only place her in the top 5, but not the top 3.
Also, for the record masculine doesn't imply unattractive. In fact, feminine in the truest sense of the word is less attractive to me and many others. Everyone has different tastes, humans, and judges alike. But to reiterate the point of this, the 4 women categories should have clear distinguishing factors. nathalia might belong somewhere in the middle of bikini and figure, I feel with the right training, she could actually win the figure olympia. But she may never win the bikini olympia again... But you never know right?
PS: one last thing on this topic. The comment about my offseason bum was just something to be silly. I actually have quite a feminine ass I've been told. But it certainly doesn't look like the winners! So again, masculine, feminine, where do you draw the line? You don't there is no such thing. On a more serious note, I'll use the words glutes. Its a muscle, and essentially I think the way bikini is going is less muscle, and that includes glutes. However, they want the glutes to not shake and be able to bounce quarters off them. a pretty hard thing to have without some muscle in there. And thats why it will take winners who have predisposition to carrying fat extremely well. Is it right or wrong? Neither. its the sport, if one disagrees with it, that's fine, but that's the reality of the sport. I am not knocking Melo's look as a person, I am critiquing it to say why I feel she placed 4th, and not first.
I guess my post was taken out of context and is now being taken out of context on facebook. It's a shame one needed to resort to that. Perhaps you should have asked me to clarify. If anyone thinks I am acting unprofessional in my critique, and that I should not be a moderator here then please let me know. I am glad to retract anything that is inappropriate, but anyone who knows me will know I didn't mean anything negative by any of it. I am a fan of the sport, and have always been and always will. I am as unbiased as they come and while I am only human, I will have my own subjective thoughts. The only thing I would not do is bully someone online, or say anything negative about someone (other than myself and my girly bum).
I've also said right from the start that bikini didn't really 'belong' in the sense that people might not respect it as much in a bodybuilding show. And for a while, most will remember thinking it was a joke. And then girls like Melo won, and people started respecting it more. And now with the new winners, I am hearing a whole lot more of what I used to... Criticizing the lack of muscle and so on... However, because figure exists, it would be too close to figure and they had to bring a different 'sport' in the mix, where perhaps genetics would play a bigger role than the amount of muscle and muscle definition you might need. Am I being defensive, yes... of course... because I am not used to anyone attacking my opinions. I try to be as politically correct as I can, but I guess I didn't this time.
Guess not trying to fix really. But hopefully anyone who read the out of context post on facebook which was shared on 6 friends walls will come here and read what was actually being written and what point I was trying to make. Funny how some people go as far as saying I must have less muscle than a bikini chick and my wife having a miley ass. And even if that were true, whats the difference... But it just makes it more silly when you know the truth. Not knocking down melo's phsyique. never have never would. Just don't think its right for bikini the way bikini had as a direction. Besides, my honest opinion is more in line with everyone hating on the guy's (me) post. I personally wish bikini was more like fitness model. In fact, it would make more sense if it was fitness model, bodybuilding, and fitness. That's it. Women have a lot of divisions, Men have 2, and I think the men's side have it right. Huge, and cover mag guy. women could do the same. Bodybuiding judged the same as they judge men and fitness model / cover model.
if you think i'm attacking you don't know me very well i hadn't even warmed up
and i am here DEFENDING THOSE WHO ARE NOT HERE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES
cuz i'm sure Natalia Melo is not on this forum and hasn't seen your post
and i bet if you did a poll and asked ANY WOMAN....
THAT THEIR BUTT LOOKED LIKE A MANS IN THE OFFSEASON and that they looked MASCULINE
they would be offended
BY THE WAY THERE ARE OTHER FORUMS WHO HAVE RULES ABOUT THIS TYPE OF POSTING
and coming from a moderator it's very uncool imo
oh and by the way i've seen plenty of girls as soft or softer and as small as that BIKINI OLYMPIA CHAMPION that were taking anabolics
i'm on the front lines as a full time personal trainer and prep coach i'm often horrified to hear way too many girls
not only what they're on... but how much
and more often than not their boyfriend told them to take it
Again. didn't say she looks masculine far from it. I said judges are stearing away from hints of masculinity. Masculinity in this context has nothing to do with looking like a man. She doesn't look like a man. Not even close. However, I think the judges are stearing away from a hard look. too dry looking, something that distinguishes from figure. Out of context is when you take pieces of my post and not include what I was trying to convey which is shown in my posts leading up to that post, and the thread is related to olympia results. My only comments were trying to clarify results and explaining them. I'll remove what I posted but its too little too late. which is the main reason I wish you would have contacted me to point out my posts seemed offensive. I tend to write really quickly and just get down what is flowing through my head at the time. By saying things like 'looks like mine in off-season' isn't meant to say ' she has a butt that looks like a guys'. It is meant to say there is a lot of muscle in there, roundness, looks like she can squat a tun, and is in shape. All compliments. It comes across weird if you think of me as a stick figure who doesn't know what the gym even is. So yes, I'll fully apologize for that as it comes across as chauvinistic which is completely not what the intent was.
