congrats prae, blp!
Hey Hassan,
That sounds like a shitty go if they did that! Do you have any pic you care to show?
I seen little to no comparisons throughout all weight classes, just top 5 callouts, madatories, next 5 mandatories, etc and a "thanks gentelmen, exit the stage". The actual Ontario's portion of the weekend gets a failing grade from me, I don't know what the others think. It was definitely rushed to make way for the Pro's. I'd rather see them split the show into 2 days if it meant proper comparisons and organization. Do the pre-judge Fri if you have to or even a portion, do the ladies pre-judge Fri, men's Sat morn, then get the night show going. Even little things like the pump up area were horrible, this is provincial level and they had a couple 20' and 30's db's sitting around the floor for 100 competitors and you always get the "rookies" who start cranking weights 2hrs before they go on stage so the guys who really need them are creating ways to get a pump.
Obviously the first year of a new thing is going to have hiccups, it has to be expected but I just didn't see anyone scrambling around trying to fix those problems, it was more like an "oh well, we'll get it right next year attitude". The music portion was inexcusable though. Instead of just to the point of litterally pushing guys out on stage to pose to ****in Katy Perry, take a 10min intermission and tell the guy to get his shit together or get someone who can. They were already behind as it was, 10min woulda been nothing.
I agree that the music situation was completely inexcusable. Guys worked long and hard on developing a good posing routine, and got it all ****ed up because the music guy couldn't figure it out. Some competitors refused to go on stage until they got their music right, and that is exactly what every competitor should have done.
I think the judging was spotty in some instances. Some of the placings seemed to be somehat suspect. However, the overall was definitely well deserved.
All in all, the caliber of competitors was totally first class. Congrats to everyone who competed.
Nationals aren't much different bro. top 5 get the callout and the 6th to 10th place guys aren't compared to the top 5 unless it's really close. Last year other than the heavyweight class there was no comparisons...my guess is that the head judge has a lot of influence on the callouts but i'm just guessing. I agree the music situation was very poorly handled though.
I like my beats fast and my bass down low..come off it, my gf was asking me if they picked their own music, she couldn't believe how bad it was
to be honest, even if it is close, they aren't likely going to get called in...thats why if you had access to the score sheets, what happens is there might be some people having 3rd, 4th, 5th interchanged betweeen judges, but never will the 6th place finisher have a 5th place vote. It's basically their way of judging in 'sets'....the argument for it is that it saves alot of time, and if someone is overlooked, its only the 4th - 7th place people, so not really affecting hardware. But sucks alot for people who really worked hard to make top 5 to not need to re-qualify for nationals. The good thing is lately it seems they often do a top 6 callout, which usually helps in that case.
Good for bodybuilding where there is little variance in scores, but horrible in figure and bikini where you get #2 and #8 flip flopping between judges sometimes!
In any case, the solution is simple. Leave adequate time for judging, and as big guns said, they needed to split the show...you cant have prejudging, finals, and a pro show finals in 1 day! Last years provincials was almost flawless, and prejudging was well executed. My class of only 6 guys had about 4 callouts! and I don't think it was even that difficult of a class to judge. Nationals is tricky to fix...you have large classes of many exceptional athletes, making judging hard enough to get it right from 1 to 5...let alone 4-8, 6-10, and so on. Getting the top 3 correct is almost the most you can ask for!
I wish i can promote Steve to head judge
Here are some pics of me 1 day out and show day, I havent trained in 2 weeks prior to this show since my MD video. I damaged my Bicep tendon to shoulder you can see in the pics my left arm i cant flex it and its smoothed over. I forced the show and im glad i just did it and it wasnt too noticable.
my goal for next show is to come in few lbs heavier and bit sharper, Im rehabing now and should be ok soon i hope. that extra size i had around 3 weeks out will be needed for next show you can see the big difference in pics.
Here is another...

Thanks JMP...it happens...you have to be prepared for such things and be able to do an ad lib posing routine...things never always go according to plan...i guess its just Murphy's law/

Some of the competitors from Ottawa did well. Congrats to the 3 competitors from Ottawa that placed top 3 in their weight class.
