Used to train at the A-club in London Ontario (last year). Nice club, priced the same as most clubs like Goodlife (About $50 per month). I prefer working out in less trendy clubs...

Not really as ritzy as the website propaganda makes it look....

boooo (but I'm biased) Worked and trained there, wouldn't again but I prefer small independantly owned gyms.

In all honesty though, the equipment and facilities are top notch. Well maintained, clean. Not very bodybuilder friendly. The one I worked at you had to have sleeves. Price will vary by location but I believe the one in my area is the most expensive gym in town. There will also be a fairly substantial administration fee.

Whats the size of that place (sq foot)?

Which location?

The one I worked at back home was probably the smallest. The one here in Guelph is big http://www.theathleticclubs.ca/our-clubs-20

If you look though, womans only pool, womans only spa, womans only area, woman's only group fitness etc etc etc... it's not a bodybuilder gym. They are all set up to make money based on the demographics of people who come to fitness facilities. They don't even show the free weight section in the video because they honestly would probably like nothing more than to turn it into a day spa and kick all the big sweaty guys out.

In London you have to wear sleeves on the main floor.....you cannot wear tanks anywhere but in the free weight area.....

like Hurley said, not BB friendly

I would imagine the gym cost more like 50 million but that's a ballpark guess. It's on land leased from the University, not sure how they arranged the whole thing.

I looked into the athletic club in Guelph, and that thing is the MGM Grand of gyms. **** me its nice! I think I read it cost 10-12 million to build. Memberships aren't obserd... I'm a student and it was like 45 a month or something like that. It was a about a year ago I looked into it so my memory is hazy. Initiation was 140??? i think. They have just about everything anyone could ask for there. Pool, squash, sauna, hot tub, shake stand...you name it. I know alot of the guys here arent about the squash courts and whatnot...but its still there for you.

I have a membership at a club here in Ottawa and I also have a GL membership because of my traveling. I find myself working out more at GL than my home gym. I am not sure why as I actually hate the premise of GL but for some reason I need the change every now and again.

Wish there was a quality dungeon in Ottawa lol

I worked out at the club in Thunder Bay. It also was not really bodybuilder friendly but the equipment and hours were top notch.

Perhaps there are a lot of memberships paid in cash that you do not observe, and they pay for "expenses" you have not considered.

Nate,
Is the Merivale YMCA still there (it has likely moved)? It was a PURE BB DUNGEON in the mid-1990s (when I was at Ottawa U).....it was awesome and pretty hardcore (hahaha fist fights in the parking lot and all)....I think it used to be a Golds before that.
