Definately biological in some cases.. I grew up with a guy that turned out to be homosexual. Looking back, there were signs even when we were just 5-6 years old.

No it's not Mr. O

Not meaning to double post but here is the post that Nate is referring to.....

An article from the Toronto Star..... You can be sure that once pedophilia is shown to be biological and not a choice that it will then change the the laws. This is how homosexuality was sold to the masses. Before you start flaming me, understand that 30 years ago homosexuality and pedophilia were both considered deviant behavior. The thought of either behavior defended by our constitution would have never been imagined possible. Today polls show that 75% of people think homosexuals are born as such, research scientist do not agree with this. Here is a well known research group with many articles....http://www.narth.com/menus/born.html
Things will not happen overnight but things like this are the first steps in normalizing a behavior.

Is pedophilia a product of nature or nurture?

Jul 17, 2009 04:30 AM
Robyn Doolittle
crime Reporter

Is pedophilia hereditary?

The truth is scientists don't know yet, said James Cantor, a psychologist with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

But, he said, studies show that someone who is sexually attracted to children is biologically different from non-pedophiles.

"Over the past five years, we've been gaining more and more ... clues that this is the case," said Cantor, one of the few scientists in the country studying the issue.

In recent years, researchers have shown pedophiles are three times more likely to be left-handed and are "significantly" shorter than non-pedophiles.

Their IQs are typically 10 points below average and they more frequently suffered head injuries as children.

By this logic, it would seem nature, rather than nurture, is to blame.

On Wednesday, it was announced identical twin brothers Ronald and Donald Croft have been charged with possessing child pornography.

Det. Sgt. Kim Scanlan, who heads the Toronto police child exploitation unit, says that in general, research indicates those who collect child pornography have "a propensity to be hands-on offenders."

The 40-year-old twins from Scarborough are not the first close relations accused of being sexually attracted to children.

In April, Donald Mumford, 56, was convicted for the sixth time of sexually exploiting young boys. Mumford's son, Wayne, is also a convicted child molester. In 1995, Wayne Mumford, then 19, was convicted of sexually assaulting his 7-year-old cousin. In February, 30-year-old Junior Spencer was released from prison after serving time for various offences. He had been convicted of making, possessing and distributing child pornography between 1995 and 2005. His twin bother, Stephen, was convicted in 2000 of possessing child pornography. But Cantor cautions that DNA is likely only part of the story.

For one thing, identical twins do have the same DNA. But there is another layer of biology: epigenetics. This is what turns certain genes on and off, explaining how two people who look the same can be so different.

Cantor also notes that most twins share not only biology but also an upbringing. In all likelihood, multiple cases of pedophilia in the same family are the result of both biological and environmental factors, he said.

The researcher is in the final stages of a study examining minor skin malformations in pedophiles, such as attached earlobes or webbed toes.

"The fetal tissue that produces the skin is the same tissue that produces the brain and they develop at the same time," he explains. "And there's a very strong association ... between the number of these minor physical anomalies a person has and sometimes very dramatic brain-related disorders, like schizophrenia. "Taken by themselves, of course, they don't really mean anything. It's when you put all of these things together that it gives us a clue for when in life they happened. That then tells us, in turn, when in life our interventions should be aimed in order to prevent it."

It is definitely biological.

For one there are many studies done now that do in fact back this up.
Here's one:

http://www.sexualhealth.e-healthsource.com/?p=news1&id=533470

Its prevalent throughout all of the animal kingdom showing it is "natural" and not specific to human "deviant" behavior.

as well as some are born with a genetic disposition to being homosexual

Biological. Some people may tend to be more down the middle, and eventually fall into the group they feel most welcomed into, but it's still biology to begin with.

I've seen homosexual cattle, dogs, and other animals. it's biology. It's observed in nature around the world, yet some people still deny it.

Nisser, Stay out then....Oh and read the article I posted. People are now trying to prove that pedophilia is biological and not a choice. Where do you think that will end up?
What do we base our decision on. Is it scientific or simply a feeling or hunch. For instance this is from the source I quoted earlier.

"Interpersonal relations which are truly human cannot be reduced to physical sensations of pleasure or pain. Anyone who chooses to behave in that way is rightly called an animal. When he acts like a sex-obsessed parasitic worm, he becomes less than human. This is the fallacy underpinning the Norwegian exhibition. Its logic can be expressed as follows:

Homosexual behaviour is observable in animals.
Therefore, homosexuality is in accordance with animal nature.
Man is an animal and therefore homosexuality is in accordance with human nature.

Now try extending this argument to other aspects of human life. Animals don't take care of the elderly -- should that lead us to close down nursing homes? Cannibalism can be observed among animals -- should we sell unwanted babies as sausage filling? Most people would say that we shouldn't. Humans are different"

I always cringe when these type of topics come up on an online forum. You have those that are rational (fortunately the majority I think) but you always have a few those that try to pass off a bigoted view as being "rational and unbiased" that in reality is usually just based on clouded religious/superstitious beliefs...or are just bigoted.

Personally I have no tolerance for those types. This world is a better place IMO when people can see past superficial shit , like what consenting adults like to do with their private parts.

Maybe if people where more familiar with the kinsey scale there would be different opinions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_scale

What I find interesting is the lack of common sense of some people when talking about the issue. They never asked themselves if they chose their sexuality. I don't think that any of my 3 older brothers chose to like pussy they just do! But that being mainstream and considered "the norm" not much thinking is spent on it.

The easiest way to describe it is: you are born left handed, right handed or ambidextrous, the majority of people are right handed and have no idea of what being a lefty is, some others are ambidextrous and they go back and forth depending on the situation. But if you are left handed life is not that easy as the world is designed for people that are R. Now you can learn to do things with your R hand and fit in society (decades ago it was prohibited to use L hand to write in schools) but that really doesn't matter because you are born L.

I would find very strange someone to choose to be a homosexual as someone said before it goes beyond where you stick your dick.

It is a daily uphill battle, yes it used to be worse and I am glad about the times and place that/where I live.

When I watched MILK I almost cried when I realized how much things have improved and in some other ways nothing has changed.

There still is a lot o discrimination, not always in your face, it is criminalized in some countries and the shit just goes on.

Personally I find sexuality just ridiculous. People spent too much time talking and thinking about it. You like what you like and that's it and as far as no one is being hurt it is all good.

I have had a few girlfriends and my relationships where good emotionally and sexually as well. Them I found a guy we clicked and are in a loving stable relationship for the past 9 years and in my opinion that's what matters: happiness.

As Mr. O said I don't look gay (whatever it means), I have no designer genes, I can't cut hair or talk about Hollywood celebrities, I play sports since I was 12, did 3 years of Thai boxing, like vodka instead of beer, appreciate female beauty and sometimes they hit on me when I go to bars with my straight buddies.

All in all I consider myself a old boring married guy.

But in the back of my head I something: first women, them jews, them blacks now the homos are the pariahs o fthe 21st century.

agreed. but that argument goes both ways, as those "consenting adults" display their "choice" or "biological urge" to place their private parts in another man's ass on a pedestal, and make demands for special privilege based on it. They push their gayness on society, there is bound to be backlash.

it has been a decade now, and gays have had noted equal status in the charter, and any laws pertaining to discrimination.
Yet they keep wanting more. Now gay pride events litter our cities, where misfits take to the streets and make a mockery of themselves. Traditions are being destroyed just for personal gay conquest goals. And constant tax dollars are being spent on ever more claims, and legal challenges.

Why is it even an issue? Why are we even hearing about it? The charter says they are equal, the laws state the same... so stfu already and live your life. Let the govt waste tax dollars elsewhere. They didnt NEED to be married. They do not REQUIRE ANY more recognition or rights then they have already achieved. They have all the rights we have.

Were things ****ed up here in the 60's? Yes. Were the changes good? Yes! But there is nothing more to change. Go be gay, and live your life like a human being and worry about the fricken global warming. The seal hunt. Whatever, but enough Gay rights. You have them all already.

I guess we agree. I don't believe that any group should have special rights.

What all the agy rights activits look for is equality, therefore the gays should have the option to get married, be miserable and divorce like anyone else.

But 2X you implied that gays wants special rights and I have not been able to recognize in your posts witch rights you are talking about.

There is the odd case of the person that wants to push his own issues and uses the fact that he is gay in order to abuse the system but that has nothing to do with being gay he is just a jerk.

Gay pride is subject for another tread. I am of two minds about it.

There are people during the parade that are just weirdos seeking attention and I don't really know what the Pride parade in Toronto is all about other than $$$$$ so much corporate crap... but at the same time it brings $80.000.000 to the city and no capitalistic society will ignore that. I have no friends that participate in teh parade because it is shit adn very few that watch teh parade because it is shit but still i sthe best street festival in Toronto and I believe that Divers cite is just the best party in this country.

I guess that if anyone can organize a street festical that atracts millions of people, generates so much income and has no violent incidents whatsoever (plus it is gauaranteed that it doesn't rain during the parade) it deserves government help to generate more tax money to give meds to the peopel in the metadone clinics.
