hey guys,
Have you guys tried the premier nutrition protein bars at costco?

I was looking for a protein bar with the lest amount of carbs and high protein.
Is there any other brands out there offering better than this?
Oh and it's only 15 bucks for 12 bars at Costco.

I eat them but I shouldn't. This has been described aptly as Mars bar plus a Scoop of whey powder.

I personally like them but I haven't found a bar that didn't taste like ass that wasn't essentially a candy bar plus a scoop of whey.

Those are good bars.
Some of the best marcos I've seen on a bar, and very well priced.
I don't see how you relate these to candy bars? They only have 8 grams of sugar, and 23 carbs.
I think you made a good purchase.
The only downside to them is the protein sources including soy, but meh.

I probably should have said Snickers bar rather than Mars bar and they do taste good. It's simple carbs are not going to be a winner no matter how you look at it. Better off with some brown rice or a sweet potato and a chicken breast.

A Mars bar has 42 grams of carbs, 34 being grams of sugar.
These protein bars only have 24 grams of carbs and only 8 grams of sugar.
With 30 grams of protein and only 280 calories, this is one of the best protein bars I have come across through the years.
I not saying its better than eating real food, but when your stuck, this is one of the better bars to pick imo.

If you don't like preservatives, you probably wont have much luck with any protein bar. How do you think they last for years in a package at room temperature?

Those are biggest junk bars on the market... look at the ingredients in them!!!
The ingredients are more important than the macros, because this is the only way to see the source and quality of the protein... If you want cheap and easy, stock up small cans of flavored tuna for .99... or empty a 500ml plastic water bottle and dry out the bottle, once it's dry put a scoop of whey concentrate in it... add cold water and shake when you are ready to drink... I am not a big fan of protein bars, I do eat one every once in a while... A decent 30G bar is at least 2.50 or about $30 for a box...
INGREDIENTS: Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Hydrolsate), Hydrolyzed Gelatin, Glycerin, Sugar, Water, Peanut Flour, Palm Kernal Oil, Peanut Butter, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Salt, Non Fat Dry Milk, Tapioca Starch, Fructose, Yogurt Powder (Cultured Whey Protein Concentrate, Cultured Skim Milk and Yogurt Culture), Soy Lecithin, Peanut Extract, Sucralose, Caramel Color. ALLERGY INFORMATION: Contains Milk, Peanuts and Soy. This product is produced in a facility with soy, dairy, egg and wheat ingredients, peanuts, seeds, fish and tree nuts.
Notice how these bars contain Hydrolyzed Gelatin... here's some info about this...
"Unfortunately, not every manufacturer uses high quality protein. Some are perpetrating the 'big ripoff' to unknowing customers who are purchasing supposed protein / amino drinks that actually contain hydrolyzed gelatin protein (other names include hydrolyzed collagen protein, animal connective tissue protein, other animal proteins, etc.) Hydrolyzed gelatin is made mostly from frozen and fresh pork skins as well as cattle bones and hides. These inedible connective tissues and bones are then run through a series of caustic baths, intermittently with hot and cold soakings to separate out the collagen. This is what you are putting into your body when you drink a protein drink which has hydrolyzed gelatin on the label.
Hydrolyzed is the basis for gelatin dessert, and although it might be a fun food, it was not designed to build muscle mass and it won't. This protein has a PER of almost 0. It contains little or no tryptophane, one of the essential Amino Acids necessary for the formation and utilization of all the other Amino Acids. It is a lot cheaper for a manufacturer to purchase hydrolyzed gelatin than the special whey American Body Building uses, which is a natural milk protein naturally extracted during the processing of cheese, after which the lactose, a milk sugar, is removed.
When using hydrolyzed gelatin, the nutritional information panel on the label is supposed to make the statement "Not a significant source of Protein" next to the word protein. But they usually and conveniently forger to include it. Have you been using a product like this and not gained the mass you thought you should on a high protein supplement? Well, you're not getting any protein for it. Whenever you see hydrolyzed gelatin anywhere on the label, even if the label says the product contains whey, check your rear view mirror. Gelatin can cost 75% less than soluble whey, and whey is much more difficult to process. Given these facts, how much quality protein do you believe they are actually giving you in their products when gelatin is listed on the label.
THINK ABOUT IT! For these and other reasons of increased processing costs, some manufacturers opt to go the easy way, and put low quality, low biological utilization proteins in their products."

(Potter and Hotchkiss, 1998). During the 1970s, the low protein quality of collagen-based ‘Liquid Protein’ diet
products led to Federal regulatory action (Vanderveen and Mitchell, 1981). The Food and Drug Administration
investigated the deaths of 17 relatively young people, 13 with diets whose sole caloric intake came from a liquid
collagen or gelatin solution. The FDA subsequently developed regulations that modified the label requirements of
such diet products (US FDA, 1990).

Protein bars suck. Shaker cup plus a bottle of water. Or a can of tuna emptied into a tupperware container. Just my opinion.

I think you're making them into the devil more than they deserve to be.

I agree... or for those too lazy to do that... like I said earlier, a 500ml bottle of water and scoop of wpc... or one of those lightly flavored tuna cans that do not need a can opener combined with a plastic fork :)
I think the safest protein bar is the Protein 32 bar from Bio-X... it tastes half decent and has solid ingredients... it also has 10G of fiber (that's alot!), 0G sugar and 32G protein with NO gelatin... I sell them for $30 for a box of 12...

Actually, the 1st ingredient is soy... the Premier bars are lowest quality bars on the market... no one knows how much or how little gelatin is in those bars... there are a million other better choices if you need a cheap portable source of protein...

I bought some detour bars cause they were cheap at costco. haha
They're like chocolate bars but they only have 15g protein. I just take them to work to eat during coffee break.
Do you guys have any recommendations for cheap, descent bars?
Protein powder and oatmeal.
