why did this guy consented to a search on a routine traffic stop is beyound me.....if the box was open and the cop could SEE the contents inside the box from standing outside of the car then maybe, or if the car smelt like weed, or the dude just looked all ****ed up...if not THEN GET A ****IN WARRENT TO SEARCH MY CAR. a Justice of the peace has to have probable cause to issue a warrent and a box just sitting there unopened with no way of veiwing content it's not going PERMISSABLE AS PROBABLE CAUSE ...Like to see how the lawyer is going to handle this......

As for the cops checking your car....that has changed long ago.....there is a way for them to check your car regardless if they are suspicious of anything. I'm not sure how it works and I can't remember. I got this from cop!

They can say that they smell weed when they dont, or they can use the ol'radar dectector trick to search your car.

No your right! They find any excuse for anything. But I know there is one specific one they have or been taught to use to be able to search the car....wish I could remember. Either way they will hold you up for hours if you even look the wrong way. I have a friend who seems to get pulled over for no reason at all....all the time.....and actually doesn't get charged with anything....He literally tells them to **** off. Routine stop is bullshit....

Yep the worst thing you can do is slow down and do the speedlimit around a cop, or make moves like you are stashing something in a hurry. If you are under 10 over they generally don't look at you anyways.

you can do that, but apperently for it to be admisable in court you have to advise the cop that he is being taped....bullshit in my opnion, but I keep a recorder int he car and always pull it out if the cop starts giving me a hard time! I have no problem with them doing their job, but I won't be bullied by anyone period, specialy if my tax dollars are paying their budget!

they always over estimated the value of drugs. Makes the report sound so big, hell depending on the maker (like axio) the tabs are so small you can fit 10,000 tabs in couple of pill bottles. i am glad to hear that the police here still don't take it to seriously, with the US pushing though that may change.

that is a good idea and some lawyers recommend it. remember to announce the date&time and ask the officer for his name aloud and the reason he has detained you:)
i usually ask for their card if they start getting out of hand. it seems to take the wind out of their sails.

Just make sure to have your cellphone (w/vid-photo camera) handy. If it's always on you, then you just have to remember to take it out when they 'happen to stop by'. When it's in their face, maybe they'll rethink their actions? If the vid from a cellphone is permissible?

cops in canada can not search your car without your concent , probable cause or a warrent to do so... I have been down this road before.. I have had shit thrown out of court because piggy thinks that were stupid ****in people and they rule the earth.. if the dude gets a good lawyer who knows his shit , the case will be less than 2 hours in court with the prosecutor will look follish trying to explain why it ok to infringe on your civil rights..

Not true, only way they can search car is if evidence is in plain view or they get your consent. Only way they can search car without this is if they were given the heads up of what was going on from a reliable and trusted source.

Ya...they turn around and say I have grounds that you may have a radar dector..they will ask to search your car..if you decline have fun sitting there for a while.
