Horrible gym IMO. Everyone there sits on there phones, sits on equipment and take 10 minute breaks between sets. To do a workout you literally have to cut in on everyone between there sets to get anything done. Overprices out the ass. Go to World Gym in Port Coquitlam, quiet, lots of equipment, and good music don't even need your IPOD. 15 minute drive from Burnaby.

wow, while i trained there there was never more than 15-20 people in the gym. I trained in the early afternoon. It has the most state of the art leg training equipment i have ever seen and i have travelled extensively throughout western canada for work and i always check out new gyms. Plus its a 5 min drive from BCIT.

As for the expensve part, yeah it is but i worked out a deal with the manager every year as i was only there for 2 months each time.

15-20 people can be allot unless the majority of them are on the cardio machines.. as for the leg training equipment i had allot to choose from while working out at worlds in red deer but when i moved back to the island i went back to the basics and noticed bigger gains with keeping it simple.. squats lunges curls and extensions just added more sets to make up for not as many exercises.. im looking for a " hardcore " gym .. but not a " poor " gym.. there is a difference and im sure everyone can identify with that.

the place is huge buddy, but whatever sorry for trying to help

there arent any "hardcore gyms" in burnaby that i know of

raptors in abbotsford is sweet but it might be too much of a "poor gym" for ya

I like the Bby Golds. The free weight area such as where the DB's and benches is kind of small, and they only seem to have one or two power racks for squats and only one Smith machine which sucks as there are some PL guys that all they do is squat and squat for hours and hog that squat racks. But the rest of the leg area is pretty deadly with tons of equipment. Lots of variety for back workouts too. Lots of nice free weight and machines I like that gym.

Sure a lot of guys walking around and taking their time but if their going to do that you just move in and they bugger off.

15mins in prefect condition, but is more like 45 min to an hour if you go in the morning or afternoon. There is Fitness World, you should check it out. The nice thing about FW is you can going to any location. Some of there locations are great like Surrey and others are so so.

Vancouver East side: Spartacus at Commercial and Graveley, Raptor's on Kingsway a couple blocks east of Victoria.
Raptor's seems more power-oriented than Spartacus, if that's a preference. (Which is odd as Raptor's is upstairs over a Legion, and you aren't to drop weights for fear of activating shell-shock, Spartacus basement does get hot in summer)
Both will let you look around before joining, without being escorted by a "sales officer". Spartacus student rate for 6 months is $166.32 (incl. GST)

I took gold's for granted, until I moved and started at fitness world on north rd. What a shitty hole. Gold's is great, it's huge, db's up to 150 or so. I was was only paying 40 a month, seems fine to me. Great gym.

Yes, Burnaby Gold's is great but to expensive for me. I'm a cheap bastard! I just found a hidden gem in Burnaby...Fitness 2000. No sign up fees, card charges or other BS. DO NOT sign on with Fitness World. That lame ass chain franchise corporate gym is killing every independant gym around. If people dont smarten up soon all there will be is Fitness World. I could go on but that belongs an the rants n raves section.

Did someoone say Spartacus gym back there?...that place is like a gym crossed with a gay bar. I'm NOT kidding. Went there once and as i'm walking up I noticed the big rainbow on the awning over the door....that was my first clue...there were others.

The only hardcore-ish gyms I know of in the area would be World Gym PoCo or possibly Grimm's Gym in Port Moody I believe.
