New law hasn't passed yet.

But safe-mailis screwed. A lot of guys have functional emails but many sources I talked to saytheir passwords have been changed. My account works but I never used it to discuss anything so be careful here.

They deleted people who had more storage to make room for all the new accounts? :) That or they just had big server issue....

If this happened with your gmail account, you wouldn't even notice.

Shit happens; it's a free e-mail server. Maybe their hard drives broke or something; i don't know, I'm not a nerd. But it sure isn't LE giving you advanced warning and deleting your emails. Get real.

When "shit" happens to a server is happens uniformly to all accounts. The fact that some accounts went back up with no missing emails, others went up with read or missing emails and yet more won't go up because "password" issues makes the situation a bit more than the simplistic way your young self "puts it". If you were around for more than a few years you would know that people were having similiar issues with hush before the shit hit the fan.
So if people are paranoid it's because they have been around longer than a few years and they don't go around like a tough guy wannabe telling people to 'get real'.

People are paranoid because they have seen this before with "another free email" service and idiots who think they know it all were inserting stupid comments similiar to yours. Actually I can pull up post from Anonymous BB very similiar to yours right before ORD.

It can be a hiccup. It also can be a server raid. Better safe than sorry since time is about ripe for another famous "operation". what we don't need is guys like you (LEO perhaps?) telling us not to worry when maybe we should be worrying.

Yeah I would go further and suspect anyone telling you that safe-mail is totally safe and that you are being "hysterical" be treated liek LEO or a rat.

If you go back and search the boards before the 2 recent operations you will see the guys trying to keep sources at hush were rats or LEO. They echoed teh whole 'chill out guys, nothing is up". Yeah right.

Remember it's your sfety and your responsibilty. If you feel "weird vibes' then don't listen to random dude onteh internet who may or may not be typing his post from A dea office in virginia. If you feel something isn't right with your safe mail account move on. Tons of free email companies out there

Man I remember the hush facade.

I remember about a year before the big busts when I did a little research on hush and found out the servers were in Canada. I had stated my concern openly. But meh....

Probably safest thing to do on the net is not do anything illegal. Too many ways too get caught and nothing really ever gets deleted for good. Especially emails :(

I remember that, Its true there is no hiding anything on a puter, I know a couple ppl that put a speaker magnet to their hard drives to remove illegal crap...my theory is to just not do it lol

This was the safe-mail system message when i logged on today.

We are sorry!
There was a major breakdown on our system.
The problem affected some accounts, while all others were not affected and could continue to work normally.
However, for those who were affected, there was a blackout period followed by backdated accounts.
We are now retrieving data from the disaster recovery system and will issue an update soon.

Just FYI.

You are a wise man.

Olympics are just around the corner, Mr. Harper loves to look tough on "crime".
Where do you think LE would start an investigation?
How do you know who anybody is on this, or any board.

because very few countries have a TRUE zero retention law for data. Canada ain't one of them (thus Hush had it for years on end- more than required), USA certaintly doesn't (although believe it or not American companies give the FEDS a bigger legal scrap than the rest of the world does), Israel doesn't, No EU country has an exemption.

So be careful. Despite what these "super secret" email services say they are full of shit. They follow the laws and lie abouttheir services. Just like hush: We have no access to your email . Sure they don't.:D

Oh yeah I forgot to add: Think Swiss. One of the main opposition the swiss had of joning the EU is the loss of their privcy laws which would mean billions of dollars would flow out of Switerland and into other more discreete countries. SO yeah you want zero retention and a sophisticated back bone? get a swiss email service.None are free and some are downright expensive.

I am going to look into that ...thanks for the good info...as I looked into it...this is what I found

Swiss providers to keep email records for 6 months
9 April, 2003 » Telecommunication data retention
Since 1 April, new legislation went into force that obliges Swiss Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to keep a 6 month email log file. That means they will have to store time, size and addresses of all emails sent by their customers (the SMTP envelope data). The authorities will be able to access these stored data with a search warrant only. Access is limited to a number of serious offences such as paedophilia and drug trafficking.

There is no general obligation to store the content of all emails, but providers can be ordered to keep the specific correspondence of a suspect (preservation) and forward it to a special new crime-investigating unit.

Internet service providers have resisted the new legislation, pointing at the high costs of storage and selection software. However, the new legislation hasn't fully satisfied law enforcement officers either. Before this law was introduced, there were no restrictions on the type of data a judge could order an ISP to hand-over. "The politicians weren't very pragmatic," said Nicolas Cruchet, an investigating judge in canton Vaud. "These restrictions undermine the value of the law."

Sunrise, Switzerland's second-biggest ISP, estimated that complying with the legislation would cost the company around 1 million Swiss Francs (673,000 Euro). Some smaller ISPs have threatened to pass the extra costs on to their customers. Company and university servers are not covered by the new rules; nor are cybercafes.
