I've been thinking a lot about Vancouver recently. I've been living in California for over 7 months now. I love living on the west coast, but I miss Canada immensely. I'm back in Toronto right now, and it just doesn't feel like home anymore.

So, I've been seriously considering moving to Vancouver. Any thoughts from people who live there, such as job scene, availability of apartments, nice/trendy areas to live in, cost of living, etc would be helpful!

I have lots of family in Vancouver and been there a bunch.
It sucks during winter but best city by far in summer.
The rent is pretty steep, but from what I hear it is not too hard to find a place.

Trendy areas are Yale Town which is downtown, but a place in Kitsilano, Lower Granville, or Point Grey would be nice. If you are into the club scene the last areas are far from downtown, but Lower Granville is about a $10-15 cab ride.

Depends on if you want to be in the middle of the action or if you would rather live next to a forest to jog through.

Ps. Talk to Holisex about Vancouver. However be careful if he asks you if you want to see his puppy.

I live in Victoria, but have been to Vancouver a lot....I love the west coast. I can't imagine living anywhere else in Canada to be honest. The weather is great (well...warm(ish) most of the year anyway...but rainy as hell nov-apr).

But as you must have heard it very expensive in Vancouver. Similar to Toronto I think...job scene depends largely on what you do really...the economic down turn has hit BC like everywhere else (lost my job do to it in the biotech sector).

Trendy places in Vancouver would be Yaletown or Kits. Both are VERY expensive. Just go to craigslist and look at rentals to see how expensive it is. I live on the island right now and moved here only a year ago from Maple Ridge. Well I am moving back to Maple Ridge August 1st. I am married with 3 kids but if I was single and could live that life again I would live in Kits or Yaletown. BC for me is the only place to live. I love this province!!!
