On a topic somewhat related to the thread. Why is it that as a white male I am at a disadvantage when applying for a government job. Isn't this just blatently discriminatory? Why do I need to be a french speaking, disabled, female aboriginal to have a decent shot at getting a job. They call it employment equity but I find it both racist and sexist. Some jobs specifically say that they are being filled based on "employment equity". So if a white male was the only one that applied for a job he was qualified to do he may not get it. They may be looking for a female or a member of a visable minority group instead...

I'm not sure exactly how this works so anyone feel free to correct me but this is my interpretation of what I read on the Government jobs website.

Well said O HUrley. I was having a similar discussion with friends of mine recently. By applying employment equity to stop discrimination towards visible minorities they create a barrier for "majority groups". Especially if you're a white male, it is extremely difficult to get a job some places if you have females, aboriginals or visible minorities applying for the same job. Even handicaps have better chances in some cases.

I've seen a number of times, black kids ganging up on a white guy and calling him a white pussy and such. You can find a bunch of videos like that online. These videos however don't get media attention. Why did the media jump to the conclusion that if a group of guys attacks a guy of another color/ethnic background than it must be a hate crime. **** the media! What pissed me off even more is that if it would've been the other way around three black kids attacking a white guy it would be taboo to label this as a hate crime. so this happened a few hours from where i live on the island and i have been trying to find more information on the story .. charges have been laid but im not sure if they have been charged with a hate crime or not.. and even more interesting is the fact that there was an interview with the three guys who instigated this fight but now mysteriously every single media source has erased it from there website... can anyone find this or has anyone seen this tape and could tell me what was said.. there's always two sides to a story but as soon as a minority cries racism it seems like is a closed case because its a sensitive issue. I have many friends who have been jumped by minority gangs for no reason other than they wanted to prove that all 5 or 10 of them where tougher then one or 2 and it always seems like it was just a case of misguided youth with a bad upbringing rather than a racialy motivated crime...

Come out to alberta, where I work in the oil patch natives and women sometimes are discrimated against pretty blatantly, most of my bosses would never hire a native because of past experiences, and the women because of the harassment issues faced. One women in my company apparently was shown some offending photos on the jobsite and later charged the consultant with sexual harrassment. This guy lost his job, but we lost most of the work for the company because no one wanted her on the wellsite. The moment it got slow and she screwed up she was gone.
