I like the 24 hour access, other then that the atmosphere sucks
and the old lady behind the counter always turns the music down
so low that you can barely hear it.

today i was moving the 150lbs dumbbells to my bench and i let them go from about 1 inch from the rubber floor and they gave me shit hahhah

im racking my brain trying to think of something I dislike about my gym and I got nothing.... Hmmmm
some of the people are irritating tho, not reracking weights and being Noisey & smelly.
Gym is awesome just some people I could do without but it motivates me to push harder

radio station is horrible; I feel I'm getting dumber everytime they say something.
Hours! (weekends, it closes at 4pm). Its a military gym, so I dislike the cadets working out there as we have a cadet camp on the base every summer.

What I like: free access, good equipment. Gym is empty half the time, nice people

I joined the Y this week so I could try out DoggCrapp. So far I'm not a fan of young boys and not putting your plates back when you are done. Happily they don't stay very long at a workstation and other than me I'm pretty sure no one was actually sweating. The number of 16 year old boys doing arm curls is mind boggling.

Nice new facility though and the hottub/sauna is an awfully nice way to finish up. I'm probably going to need some heavy metal for my ipod.

I'm pretty sure It will be nice for the next 5 or 6 months then I'll go back into my dungeon.

Likes: nobody bugs me, close to home, in and out quick, staff is nice.

Dislikes: all the posers, the tough-guys in Hamilton Boxing Club Wife-Beaters, the guys who hog the smith machine for a 50LB shoulder press for 12 sets.

Oh almost forgot I dislike all but 1 of the 'personal trainers'. They just stand there and let their clients do everything wrong. And give me dirty looks.

I was fortunate enough to get to train at Elite
http://www.elitewinnipeg.com/

it's a gym like nothing else... super small, very intimate, personalized workouts and all the trainers (not personal trainers, they have 2-4 trainers on the floor circulating the space so whenever you need a spot, they are there, or if you are f#*king the dog, they come andd give you shit to do something)... anyway they all know what they are doing and all are athletes. I loved it there... unfortunately I'm no longer actually training for anything, so Im no longer going there.

New gym is a city facility. It's ok... small, decent hours, all the equipment I need... I just HATE the fat old men who constantly want to tell me the "proper" way to lift weights or correct me on my technique (I'm all like ... umm I learned from Ms Manitoba, I think I'm good thanks) and I hate this one guy who takes a set of 10's a set of 15's and a set of 20's and puts them ALL in front of his bench and claims he's using them all...
... whenever he does that I stand right beside him and do biceps with 25's as Rambo is curling the 15's... makes him feel manly I think!!:)

At the gym I started training at a lot of people wear sandals. You can't be very serious about your training wearing flip flops at the gym. Those guys tend to get in the way occasionally and I find them kind of annoying. Also the hours suck on the weekend. Only 8-5.

What I really like is there are a lot of dumbells (2 sets of each up to 130 plus a set of 150's). There is a ton of equipment, is very bodybuilder friendly, chalk, grunting etc... When I deadlift I can let the bar drop hard and no one bats an eye, bumper plates, never have to wait for equipment, is never very busy. Only thing that is hard to get at is the cables (but who cares).

Busy as a fuk at my gym and there is usually a certain racial group of guys who travel in small packs of 3-6. Most of them don't wear deoderant, and they hog stations for 45 minutes at a time, doing maybe 1 set each.

Super sexy women / no one bugs me / all dumbbells over 60lbs all aways free clean great steam room always empty

pick a weight up not the F'King book / machine sitters the F'ks that take 10 min between sets watching TV and when a chick passes they start to train

When i really think about it there isn't anything i don't like about my gym. Good people, staff is great, chalk is allowed, drop a weight and no one gives you a look.

Oh and the best part, no one bugs me about keeping a journal!!

GOOD

-good selection of dumbells.
-wide variety of machines
-good monthly rate
-close to me

BAD

-staffed by a lot of dumb whores who jumped on a bike once and try to get
their oatbran in each day who think they know any kind of shit about anything

-Looks for reasons to be closed at the drop of a hat. Eg "for the holiday" even if the holiday is some ridiculous junk like "family day"

-Weekand hours of 9am-5pm? what is that crap?

-too many underarmour wearing 14 year olds having bench competitions with their warhammer buddies

-college girls mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

bad
-super busy
-only 1 univesal gym with overhead pullies
-little 120pounders doing cable crossovers with said uni gym
-little 120pounders doing cable cruls with said uni gym
-groups of guys hogging 1 machine, waiting till their other group of buddies so they pass it off on them
-pretty boys doing arm curls and dont even break a sweat

Bad:

Guy that uses the squat rack to hold his bar so that he can take that bar for a bunch of sets of "airplanes"...Basically the bar is loaded on his back as if he is going to squat, but walks back 2 feet in front of the rack and start twisting his body with the bar on back doing an "airplane" for about 1 minute.

Even worse than that are people who use the squat rack to hold their bars for doing 45 pound bicep curls.

Needless to say it was my leg day.

so go ask them to move.

I have ZERO problems asking a guy whose doing curls (yes I do them too) with pansy ass weight to move so I can get in there for my squat workout. They can put the bar on the floor for all I care.

I did tell airplane man to move. He said he had 3-4 sets left and I would have to wait. I told him it's a squat rack, and you can do your stuff elsewhere because I need to squat. Basically he was not budging - finally the guy on the other squat rack overheard us talking and offered to let us work in with him (even though he was about a foot taller than me)

We got the talking and apparently he does this airplane thing all the time and is known for it.

They move

I wonder if it woulda been any different if I was 300 pounds. Actually, I was quite surprised because people always move when I ask, but this dude was just stubborn and thought he was their first and no "bodybuilder" was going to push him around.

So I was at the gym the other day, getting ready for a mad set of my favorite exercise, the one that gets me all the ladys, and then all of a sudden some ruffian came up to me told me he needed to squat. So I just stared him down until he walked away crying. And then I went to it.

I've always wanted to also. After talking with guys about the start-up costs, the overhead, the competition, the long hours etc etc...I'd still like to do it some day but I would want to have other things on the go to fall back on.

^^^ research boys... you need to do lots of it before starting your own business

something like 80% of businesses are started on a "whim" or "cause i want to" and fail miserably

if you find a niche and cater to its demands..your golden :) you dont have to worry about the financials, you hire ppl to do that for you... but youre going to need to do your own market research

I was thinking today after training how much I hat my gym, just a bunch of goofs there! Its a brand new Golds, its not that great of a facility either, but prolly the better gym in my area w/o me having to drive too far. So many kids and firemen walking around like their shit doesnt stink. Some of them train hard but most of them just think they do, its more of a show of pretty boys. Nobody pushes any real weight. I'm just another number there basically, no comraderie....which is hard to find in any gym these days I guess.

I miss the days when I was 19-25 or so when me and all my buddies were at the gym at the same time, the gym had a Bball court, juice bar so we'd train, eat then play ball until 2am. There were all sorts of people there, PLers and BBers, a good mix it was great. Only one other gym I'd join and I go there once in a while still thats still pretty hardcore but out of the way for me to go daily too bad.
