Well here I go! Prep has started!

I will be working with Praetorian for my prep.

First show Nov 7 in Ottawa for L1 and then onto (hopefully) London on Nov 21 for L2.

I may or may not post pics/do a log of this. We'll see how much time I have but will more than likely do some during the process as I have to do weekly's anyway.

Weighed in at a sloppy 298 (lol) but will leave no stone unturned to be the most conditioned guy on stage.

Thanks to Praetorian for working with me!

I'm not going to post diet, training or supplements for the reason that I don't think it would be fair to Praetorian for me to do so. Sorry dude.

It is strict keto.

I will say he is very thorough and professional. What sold me on him was his knowledge in the posts he write, the other competitors he works with and from meeting him in London at the Ontario Championships.

He's a class act.

Good luck to you all...but as of right now OPA is no longer recognized by the CBBF anymore, so you really don't have to worry about level 1 or 2 etc. the shows will go on but you can't move up the levels and eventually go to the provincials and nationals etc.

CBBF Ontario also only has 1 show as of next year...so they are in dire need of promoters and shows

It should be interesting as to how things pan out.

Some say OPA will be reinstated but I just got an Email a few minutes ago and i doubt it.

Rumor has it maybe the other organizations like WBFF and UFE or IDFA will be used as level 1-2-3 shows. But that is only rumors at this point.

There will be only 2 levels in Ontario - the same as the NPC and other Provinces. A Provincial qualifier and a National Qualifier.

what show? I am pretty sure you're wrong on this one. They told me they have two in the fall (natural ones). And cbbf-ontario already has the figure nationals in missisauga...So if the one show your talking about is that one, then its a pretty big show to have confirmed. More will come.

on a side note, good luck with your prep. If I don't compete, i'll be watching the show regardless. The whole 1 class thing is starting to turn me off. Not really cbbf ontario being the issue, since the show is local and would just be for fun, not to qualify for anything further.

So some things I am noticing:

1) I cramp like a mofo on keto even when just sitting! So gonna up the sodium from salt and sugar free condiments as well as add in taurine.

2) Workouts are a bitch. I'm used to brutal workouts but P's are structured differently and adjusting to them has been interesting to say the least. Like it though.

3) Hunger in the mornings til about 1pm is unreal. Starts to ease up once I get my 3rd and 4th meals into me. My guess is the low carbs and the cardio first thing plus the fasted state which is driving the hunger.

I'm sure other things are on my mind but can't think of them right now. Off to hit up a cardio session in a bit - oh joy.

Until next time...

"Hardly in dire need of promoters. I just sent a list of 4 potential candidates to CBBF Ontario yesterday."

Well that is good news...i hope that a show date is set ASAP for the CBBF ontario division for 2010. I figured that melanie and laura's show in TO would be the only one left as the other promoters decided to stay with the OPA.

"There will be only 2 levels in Ontario - the same as the NPC and other Provinces. A Provincial qualifier and a National Qualifier"

I think this is also a good idea ...one huge qualifier instead of all kinds of smaller shows. It raises the quality of competitors rising in the ranks. But since Ontario has more population than most of the other provinces...my guess is 2 prov. qualifiers would be better, 1 in the spring prior to provincials and 1 in the fall. Centrally located in the province...TO area most likely.

Question for Sean...did the OPA judges also jump ship and follow CBBF ontario or did they stay with the OPA.

BTW i am a national level athlete so i'm sitting on the edge of my seat to find out all the details as info is released.

That is NOT what I said. 2 levels but NOT 2 shows. There will be several Provincial qualifiers and 1 National qualifier.

Question for Sean...did the OPA judges also jump ship and follow CBBF ontario or did they stay with the OPA.

Some stayed and some left. Judges will not be a problem. As in the past there will be room for more judges. They will have to qualify and work themselves up through the ranks. If you would like to judge please ask. I have seen people complain that there aren't any figure girls judging the shows. Why is that? Because no figure girls volunteer to be judges. In all my years of judging I have seen 1 and she is at OPA Level 2 standards (maybe Provincials but I can't recall at this moment). The group they have now is very dedicated to the sport.

I figured that melanie and laura's show in TO would be the only one left as the other promoters decided to stay with the OPA
There are other promoters who will promote the 2010 shows.

The new site should be up on Monday. I'm told it will be impressive.

I don't get it, you lost a pound even with the distended stomach from the cheat meal? Should probably be in the low 270s by the end of the week if that's the case. I know if I had a decent sized cheat I would wake up at least 5 pounds heavier tomorrow - and I am only 167 to begin with!

When you are glycogen depleted in ketosis you wont gain much weight on a single cheat meal...with the incease thyroid levels it pretty much balances things out. It is not an indication of what he will be by the end of the week what so ever.

Not sure how much I agree - I don't react that way at all. And trust me, when I diet I am as depleted as can be. A cheat meal restores glycogen enough that the scale goes up. Water weight that is. About 10 years ago, I was as depleted as could be 2 weeks before a show, and at the time I was into doing triathlons. No way I was going to run the next day without carbing up the day before. All I ate was an extra 2000 calories and the next day I was 10 pounds heavier, the day after back to what I was before.

All I am saying is he will probably be low 270s by the end of the week. We'll see. 275 is my prediction.

obviously I can atest to this. I was fully expecting to be up 5-10lbs the next day as that's usually what happens after a cheat meal like that and trust me, it was a full blown cheat meal filled with close to 500 grams of carbs from pasta, waffles, maple syrup and brownies loaded with icing.

I'll be interested to see if this holds true for future cheat meals.

steve_d
20-07-2009, 02:34 PM
Well, I guess you've peaked my curiosity...I guess I just don't understand why it is true. I always thought the point of cheat meals / days was to replenish glycogen stores. Doesn't the math workout something like 3 grams of water to every 1 gram of carbs stored? And can't your muscle hold about 1000g of carbs, therefore it would be possible to physically replenish about 6 pounds of glycogen in this way???

That is my thought process on it, so I was thinking if he's 281 now with a full set of muscle glycogen, wouldn't that bring his weight down to about 275 once the glycogen stores deplete towards the end of the week from cardio/training??

I am really curious about this. Back in the days when I used to be competitive in cycling, and triathlons, this was the way I thought things worked, and it really seemed to make sense judging by my own scales going from a depleted to carbed up state (from "cheating").

not sure what kind of diet you do but to me it makes sense while doing a keto diet - you have pretty much zilch for carbs in your system/muscles so filling them back up isn't the same as someone who is eating carbs in their diet having a cheat meal.

I am sure the scale would have been less had I just ate 8 eggo waffles and 250ml of syrup. Less food in my stomach...

Not overly concerned with the scale anyway but did notice this morning I was at 280.5. I don't normally weigh myself that often but I always tend to after a cheat meal for a day or 2 lol

Praetorian
20-07-2009, 02:40 PM
You seem to be overthinking things....the cheat meal does replenish some glycogen but it would be impossible to fill all stores in one meal. The carb intake is only 400-500g max. The most important aspect of teh cheat meal is thyroid improvement. The additional carbs increase the conversion of T4 to T3 and in essence fuel the fat burning fire.

I stay relatively lean all the time, so never need more than 8 or so weeks of dieting, and only 4 of them are really strict with cardio. By that time, I am eating approx 2000 calories a day and doing about 45mins of cardio + training per day. Maybe more if I really need it. carbs are next to nothing - the only carbs I get is from lettuce, let's put it that way! (maybe a little oatmeal here and there - but any carb I eat is quickly burnt up so living in near ketosis all the time).

If I ate an extra 500g of carbs, I would probably only be 1-2 pounds heavier the next day on average. But personally, the weight fluctuates SO much at that point depending how much shit is in my colon when I step on the scale. I weigh myself all the time and go by a median weight to keep it as accurate as I can on a weekly basis.

Got it. I guess I was thinking there was WAY more food involved. I know alot of people talk about there cheat days involving pizza, burgers, etc. Add 6-8 litres to that and no doubt you'd be heavy the next day.

Everyone has their own definition of cheating. For someone you're size, an extra 400g of carbs isn't very drastic.

I'm sure other things are on my mind but can't think of them right now. Off to hit up a cardio session in a bit - oh joy.

Until next time...

P has also been helping me with my diet....wait until he strips some fat off it you will see how hungry you become. This is this first time I have ever done this and its frigging hard at times. Because you just want to eat more. Anyways, goodluck man take some pics of you now so we can all see your progress!

Alright. I'm done with the various food combinations. I just can't eat all the food so I think from here on out I'll be sticking with pancakes and syrup with a brownie to finish it off. Most of the carbs will come from the syrup and icing on the brownie.

It kills my stomach to eat so much actual food anymore so getting in liquid'ish forms seems to be the smart choice

I did this based on P's advice...he's the man!

Ya I think that's the way to go. Saturday I had a homemade burger with turkey bacon and cheese on a kaizer then 4 LARGE (about 8" lol) pancakes with real syrup and sugar free syrup (was trying to save some calories so I could eat the ice cream) and then had ice cream. I couldn't even manage 6 spoonfuls of ice cream before wanting to hurl. Bafrely managed 400 grams of carbs plus again, stomach was massively distended and still is lol

no more :(

LOL better to stick with the carbs....the issue comes from the burger, bacon, cheese etc...it fills you up too much. Pancakes with syrup is pretty easy to get decent amount of carbs and still keep the fats tolerable.

What about going out and grabbing one of those chocolate fudge brownie Blizzards bringing it home and smothering it all over a shit load of pancakes? That should meet your requirements quite easily eh? LOL, you guys damn thats awesome, I love pancakes. I bought this pancake mix from a natural food store, a mix of cinamon and apples, cooked some today for the wife and I man o man they were tasty, They have a few flavors, choco chip, strawberry, blueberry...gluten free too.

I'd agree with that although my cardio of choice is stairclimber and stepmill (moving stairs) so they get a lot of attention every single day.

Great, cheat meal.. lol Not hungry for it, no desire for it but I know I gotta eat it. I shouldn't complain cause I know the time is gonna come when I don't get it and then I'll be bitchy lol

Hahaha....you wanna know what... I get excited for the pancakes and then once I have a few bites I actually have to force the rest down. It really doesn't feel as great eating it as I expect.....

Oh well, I like having the psychological edge knowing the cheat meal is coming up---eating it is another story ;)
