My gym shut down last week, which had extra belts, etc., and now I'm going to a spot that doesn't so I have to pick one up for myself. Anybody have a recommendation for any particular kind? The ones at the gym weren't that great and now that I'm getting into a bit heavier weight I need something with better support anyway, and does anybody know of a place to buy them? Kind of limited here in places to buy equipment from and I can't find one.

Thanks - I order from them all the time and never realized they sold anything other than supplements.

At what point should one use a belt,I have heard a lot of talk about not using belts because of stabilizer muscles, basically I'm asking if everyone uses a belt or if its at your own discretion.

A dipping belt is a different kind of belt. You hang weights off of it when doing dips.

As for regular lifting belts I don't use one. If you were to use one it should probably only be for squats and deadlifts with low reps and heavy weight. Some guys wear them all the time but imo that's a dumb idea.

I personaly don't use one eventhough I used to do it here on there. Seems kinda wrong to mimic what your abs and lower back should do, but I don't really do low rep squats which is why I don't consider them neccesary.

AN old teacher of mine... a life long natural powerlifter that was deadlifting 540 pounds at the age of 56 swore on lifting belts. He is a firm believer that a belt, if used correctly will actually increase core strenght. he means that one should flex and push against the belt when pushing or lifting. He stated that this is an old misconception that those belts weaken your core strenght. Apparently there is some reasearch out there stating that powerlifters have up to 20% more core strenght when lifting with a belt.
Is it true? don't know, never read it myself, but I thought I'd throw that out there and see what other people think abou it.

Yeah I normally don't use lifting belts, just want a dipping belt to do weighted dips/chins

i use a dipping belt for heavy chest dips. Wide and leaning, me (200 pounds) +100lbs.
