ya, jailbreak it man... you can download just about any app you want, pm if you wanna know a site that lets you do just that.. i'll tell ya when you jailbreak it.

im trying to find a used 3g iphone right now, so i can use it while im in T.O... i dont like using any other cell phones now after owning a 3g before i left. they're the best phone i've ever used.. aside from the lame ass rogers 3g coverage and dropped calls.. but thats rogers fault.

An app called CardStar is pretty cool, it replaces like membership cards by creating a barcode after you enter in your membership number that is scannable.

yup, just have to unlock it first. that's done once it's jailbroken. GSM only though, so the only other provider is Fido.

Hey Kloan, I know this guy who's got an iPhone for sale. It's not in perfect condition as he kind of dropped it last week and broke one of the buttons on the side. Might smell like whoppers too if you can handle the smell....

Dont jailbreak it if you still have a warantee... if your phone cooks itself and you have to send it in for warantee, they wont touch it if you've hacked it.

I got mine 2 months ago and I absolutely love it.

Download "Redlaser"... it will scan bar codes on products and look up prices online... works good if you're in a store and you have no idea what you should be paying for something.

Get the "appboxpro" as well, has a whole bunch of small apps built into 1, has a level, ruler, flashlight, currency convertor etc.

"Shazam" is a free app that recognizes music and will tell you who it is... works good for naming songs in commercials and on the radio.

"6packapp" is a good app for listing out all the exercises and info about them. its free too.

This is a pretty neat phone. I already have a Blackberry Bold so this will take some getting used to. My question is, what apps would you recommend? Would you suggest jail breaking it? For the first time in a while, I'm a newbie at something.... lol.

Well, only if it craps out completely and you can't restore it, since Jailbreaking is a software hack, and a simple restore will wipe all traces of it clean.

Same thing with unlocking. It used to modify the baseband, and Apple claimed that voided the warranty, however restoring also wiped all traces of that clean.

However I'm not sure about the latest unlock. I know some people have to downgrade in order to unlock their 3GS, but apparently the newest releases have a new baseband firmware, and I haven't seen an unlock method for that yet.

Jailbreaking is totally fine though in any case, so long as your phone doesn't have a complete meltdown and prevent you from restoring it. Pretty rare for that to happen... I've owned 4 iPhones now, none of which had any problem... there's always the possibility, but pretty slim.

There is no unlock yet for iPhone 3GS running OS 3.1 and up. Apple changed the baseband, so the dev team is still working on an unlock.

I have seen people mention downgrading to 3.0 and unlocking.

I'm not sure about that website, I've never payed for an unlock before.. but since there's no official unlock for the latest OS, I have a hard time believing they're legit.

What OS are you running and what baseband do you have?

The phone is a week old and had all the updates so what ever is the most recent I am going to assume, how do I look that up on the phone?

I have to say so far I am really impressed with it. A lot easier to type than I thought cause of my fat fingers and some of the apps are pretty cool. Calls are clear, and I like the way they lay out the sms messages and emails. Was a breeze to set everything up.

Look up and read about PwnageTool 3.1.4, it should be able to do both. If you can't figure it out I can help you out but I don't feel like typing out a how-to right now, so give it a shot for yourself.. as long as you read everything carefully, it's a pretty simple process.

Just type "downgrade" in the search bar on the site and you'll get some links. It looks like you can downgrade from 3.1 to 3.0 but I'm not sure if you have > 3.1.

I just upgraded the OS on the iPhone today and broke it with blackra1n.

It will give you the option to install blacksnow which will unlock the baseband.
Very simple to do. Very quick.
