Hey folks so 28 year old male, been touching the gym in and out since high school so i have good size but over the last couple years have put on too much fat weight...

i am 5"11, 244 LBS.

Right now my goal is to loos weight, be healthy but at the same time have a decent body, not looking for immense mass just more so around my shoulders and arms and upper back.....

so i have been going to the gym regulery for about 6 weeks now... i am focusing on my cardio and am now up to about 35 - 45 minutes per visit, X 3 a week.

my cardio usually consists of 25 mins on treadmil killing about 250 CALs then 15 mins on stairmaster or oliptyical... i go in with neuprene shorts and a sauna shirt to help progress the sweat.. i usually am soaked by the time i leave the gym but again i am not really sure if this is actually even doing anything for me...

when i started i was 255 LBS so i have defo lost weight and people who see me are mentioning it... having said that i dont feel i am accomplishing much

i am seeing some ripping on my arms and shoulder because i like working that out..

in any case i have recently stumbled upon articles about how cardio is garbage and need to do High Intensitiy Interval Traning combined with Resistance training... i have tried searching around but cant really find any programs that i can work..

right now along with my cardio i just do isolated training..

one day arms including shoulders/chest and neck
one day back
one day lower body...

can any one give me some advise on HIIT and Res training.. should i alter my program to achieve better results? or should i just continue as is?

thanks folks!

First off welcome aboard!
You will find many will chime in here with great advise for you. In my opionion you should stick with the cardio you are doing and look at your diet and a better gym program.

well here is the thing... so today i tried a HIIT style on the tread mil..
basically i 5 minute warm up with an incline of 4 at a speed of 3.5.

Then i dropped the incline to 2, and sprinted at 5.5 for 60 sec then walked at 2.5 for 45 seconds and repeated that for about 20 mins and i will tell you i was ready to pass out... heart rate was constant at about 160 and in 20 mins burned about 320 CALS...

then i grabbed some 20LB dumb bells and did squat thrusts 10 reps righ after which i got the big bouncy ball laid on it chest up with a medicine ball squeezed up in the air and did crunches... it was probably one of the best work out i have had,

after that i did my attempt at resistance training...

incline press on the universal 45LB 15 reps X 2
side lat raised 10LB 15 reps X 2
seated leg push 15 X 2
back row lower 15 x2

stay with the hiit but add in some strength training 3 times a week.....dont do the hiit same days as the strength training though.......the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn!!!!! welcome to the board and good luck!

but that is where i am confused... so when you say strength training what exactly is that...

i mean what is the diff between strength / resistance / and just reguler weight lifting?
