Hi guys,
I've been reading more about the use of B12 and its importance in our bodies. I was wondering how many guys supplement with the pill form or injectable?
Which is better and how much do you guys take? Is the injectable form legal in Canada?
thanks,
theboss

Vitamin B12 injections versus oral supplements. How much money could be saved by switching from injections to pills?
C. van Walraven, P. Austin, and C. D. Naylor
University of Ottawa.
C. van Walraven: carlv@lri.ca
OBJECTIVE: To estimate savings, using a third-party payer perspective, if all elderly patients currently receiving vitamin B12 (cobalamin) injections were switched to high-dose oral therapy. DESIGN: We modeled high-dose oral B12 supplement costs to include drugs, pharmacists' fees, and one-time conversion costs consisting of two physician visits and laboratory monitoring. The number of vitamin-injection visits avoided by switching to oral therapy was predicted using a multivariate model that considered covariates for overall patient illness. SETTING: Ontario family physicians' and internists' practices. PARTICIPANTS: Population-based administrative databases for Ontario were used to identify all people between 65 and 100 years who received parenteral vitamin B12 during 1995 and 1996. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The cost of parenteral vitamin B12 for each patient, including drugs, injections, pharmacists' fees, and injection-associated physician visits, was measured directly from the databases. RESULTS: The annual cost of parenteral vitamin B12 therapy averaged $145.88 per person and totaled a maximum $25 million over 5 years. Converting all patients to high-dose oral B12 and treating them for 5 years would cost $7.4 million. Depending on how many vitamin-injection visits are avoided by switching to oral therapy, between $2.9 million and $17.6 million would be saved. Switching to oral B12 administration saved costs as long as 16.3% of injection-associated visits were avoided.
CONCLUSION: Switching all patients from B12 injections to oral cobalamin therapy could result in substantial savings.

that' what I was thinking, I've read it helps protein digestion, energy boost and great for the mental aspect and.....I'm going to be doing a cycle sometime soon if/when I find some and never have shot myself before so I figured it's practice as well.
How much do you guys use? How often do you inject b12?
thanks.

I called the local pharmacy, I think the price is cheap enough but don't want to post price since I'm not sure if I should. They have the pins as well and no prescription needed. I'll give it a shot (pun intended) later on today.
How much should I try, I've read anywhere from 1cc to 7cc. I'm going to the gym later as well.
thanks,

If you are deficient it helps...if you are not i wont do much...and the B12 you get at most pharmacies and online is very very weak.

I inj B12 and a B complex called Neurobina, B12 i take EOD (1000IU) I take the complex E3D as well but in smaller doses, usually .2ml which is 20mg B1/B6 + 1mg B12. The complex gives me a HUGE boost in energy, its ridiculous... and there is no crash.. its just pure energy, so one must be careful when/how much to inj... i did a self-dosage and settled on .2ml E3D along w/ the B12. When i was starting up i worked my way up to nearly 1ml and i found it hard to sleep. If you are looking for an energy booster try to find a complex, the B12 did little for me energy wise although i did feel more 'refreshed' and i noticed after a hard workout i feel a bit more recovered the next day. If i ever need a boost i dont reach for a coffee, i reach for my slin pin now ;)

True about deficiency, the type they sell OTC at shoppers etc is the ciano version and it is definitely not as good as methyl but its better then nothing. I have asked everywhere for the methyl stuff but they dont carry it (im talking OTC), the ciano is wayyy cheaper to produce i guess. You can get the methyl version online.
Also, make sure the stuff you get is 1000IU/ml (the most 'dense') some places sell 100IU.. you would need 10ml for 1000IU.. a little too much fluid IMO.

I used 1000iu last night. Instead of the slin pin I used a 25ga 5/8" inch to give me an approximate "feel" for a gear pin. Not as bad as I thought, but I confess, I did run an ice cube over the area before sterilizing. How much worse can a 22ga 1.5" be?
I didn't feel any different, but did wake up feeling better this morning, probably all in my head.
Where did you get the B complex from? Was that OTC from pharmacy as well?
thanks,

It'll actually do nothing.
Whatever effect you're getting is placebo. B12 is so important it's in just about all your food and the enzymes required by it (methylmalonylCoa mutase and methionine synthase) recycle most of it.
dont' waste your money and potential for infeciton/scarring.
It's out there on the market because a number of people have genetic defects (in intrinsic factor for example or transcobalamins) which don't allow them to absorb the vitamin efficiently in which case injectables are usually indicated.

I get the complex from Trinidad from my friends coach but i have heard people using vet grade with the same results.. its all FDA regulated (if your not sure, check w/ the company) and sterile.. made in the same factory i have been told. I don't think they would skimp on million dollar race horses.. lol
Again hammering home the point, the B12 alone will not do much/anything if you are not deficient, i didnt notice any 'rush' or energy boost from B12 alone.. at all! The complex is where its at.. not sure were to get it in north america other than vet grade. Try ordering from the south..
The complex goes under various names. Neurobion, Neurobine, Neurobina, Neo-Bex. If you go on Ebay there is a guy selling separate ampules of B1 and B6 for reasonable prices, from Russia. As i said i cant find it anywhere in N.A.
PM me if you want.

B12 being a water soluble vitamin will just be excreted if you don't require it... dose for deficiency/anemia = 1000 mcg IM every month or 1000 mcg tablets every day
